Soap substitutes such as Doublebase Shower, Doublebase Wash and Doublebase Bath contain emollient oils and are able to gently cleanse the skin without foaming or stripping the skin’s natural oils, providing an effective alternative to foaming shower gels, soaps and bubble baths. People with dry skin conditions are often recommended to follow Complete Emollient Therapy. This involves applying leave on emollients to the skin, using soap substitutes to wash and adding bath oils to bath water. Complete Emollient Therapy helps to moisturise dry skin and avoid potential irritants. It helps treat dry or chapped skin conditions that may also be itchy, red and sore. Common examples include: prevent the skin-drying and irritant effects that can be caused by showering and by the soaps, foaming additives and fragrances used in ordinary shower products.

At bath-time, emollient bath oils can be added to bath water to cover the skin in a layer of emollient oils. This is very useful for children who have baths as part of their daily routine or as an additional way of hydrating and protecting you or your child’s dry skin.Emollients contain oils which form a layer on the outer surface of the skin, creating a barrier to help stop the loss of water and keep irritants out. Some emollients may also contain a humectant, such as glycerol which helps the skin trap and hold on to water to further relieve skin dryness.
