The real reason to shoot the X70 instead of your iPhone, which has the same angle of view, a faster lens and a bigger, brighter screen, is because the X70 has a far superior flash system (mandatory for people pictures), and of course the X70 offers full manual controls, time exposures and raw files. Build quality is a far cry from anything Fuji of the last 5 years. Wobbly dials, squidgy buttons, easy to scratch. I didn’t notice any relevant distortion in my real-world samples and chromatic aberration is well-controlled as long as you don’t shoot wide open into the sun. Distortion doesn’t seem to be relevant for real-world shooting

Above: Fujifilm X70, 100% crops from, left to right, native 28mm, 35mm tele-converter and 50mm tele-converter Viewed at a reduced size, the teleconverter option seems ideal for situations when you want a tighter view, such as a portrait, but Fuji can’t perform miracles and as you’d expect, there’s no additional detail beyond the original 28mm version. Below are 100% crops from the middle of the 28mm and scaled 35mm and 50mm versions, where it’s clear to see the degree of real-life detail is no different between them. As such, you can achieve a similar effect yourself by simply shooting in the native 28mm and cropping later if desired. iPhones work great in daylight and indoors, while this X70 can make long exposures for use at night which the iPhone cannot. Before moving on, here’s a photo of the X70 alongside Canon’s PowerShot G5X which sports a 24-100mm f1.8-2.8 optically-stabilised zoom, fully-articulated screen and built-in electronic viewfinder. The sensor is smaller at 1in, but anyone considering the X70 as a general-purpose compact should compare it closely against the wealth of 1in rivals available. Frankly, we care too much about the gear, don't we? 12mpx original X100 is good enough for a National Geo spread, the 16mpx sensor used in X-Pro1, X70 or the Ricoh GR I and II (I believe it should be the same) is more than good enough for A3+ prints... I rarely print larger sizes. And better gear don't equate better images. (When I see your images, or say your compatriot Tomas Derner's etc., I see little reason to use fancier gear than an aps-c camera.) x-trans II film Sims do not look like the film Sims from other Fuji sensors, a bit too strong in the reds I started out with the X10- a Bayer, and was happy with that for a couple years, than got a XA1, also Bayer, with some great glass- 35/1.4, XC16-50, and 50-230. Later I got the 60mm for it's close up (not real macro but that's okay) capabilities Still happy with that but would like to upgrade to the XA3. When the X70 came out I couldn't wait for the XA3, so splurged on the X70 and have never regretted it. It takes a bit of getting used to the fixed lens but have really had great fun the last couple of months. The IQ is great, especially in low light and for street photography.

Speaking of customisable buttons, there is one that is so inconspicuous you may not even notice it. Function Button 7 (Fn7) protrudes very little and has no markings, but because it is located where your thumb sits when you support the camera with your left hand, it is actually quite useful. Natively, it changes the control ring settings but you can change it to your preferred function. Function Button 7 is in an odd yet very useful position.
