About this deal

Infant mortality in pre-modern times was ridiculously high, and you'd only need one childhood accident or disease in 2,000 years to wipe out the bloodline … keep the children of Christ marrying each other, on the other hand, and eventually they'd be so inbred that the sons of God would have flippers for feet. [78] Dyer, Jennifer (December 2015). The Role of Archaeology in the Jesus Industry (M.A.). University of South Africa. pp.26–29.

In some ways, Bloodline should never have gone past one season. But since it did, it missed a major opportunity to expand the story beyond John versus Danny. Losing Ben Mendelsohn after the first season was tough, and the series never really recovered. Danny was inherently the most interesting character, and his interactions with the family shook them up in a way that was narratively compelling. Instead, we discovered that yes, (nearly) all of the Rayburns are pretty garbage people. Plenty of shows have thrived on that conceit, but there’s usually one character who can bring redemption, someone for us to root for. Bloodline didn’t have any of that. The Inn will be underwater in 10 years? Good, wash it all away. This article is about claims to a genealogical descent from the historical Jesus. For the biblical genealogy of Jesus, see Genealogy of Jesus. From our point of view, as crafting this and why this episode, the ninth, the second to last, why take an episode to do this for John, is to really enter into his psyche and to put the audience, once again, in the shoes of John where he’s confused and he doesn’t know what’s going on and he doesn’t know what’s reality and what’s not reality. It’s very much in essence a mental breakdown for John. It moves off of the format of previous episodes for the entire series because this is really delving into John’s subconscious. And it allows Danny to reappear; it allows us to explore more of John’s subconscious, what he’s thinking and wrestling with and his true showdown with his own identity in his role within the family. There was no way of getting to that level of storytelling without taking John on this journey. It’s very much about John and so much of the series has been about John and he’s the one who has the greatest crisis of conscience. And he’s the one who obviously killed Danny. So [we wanted] to take an episode and really delve into not only what John is thinking about but also put the audience in John’s shoes and have it be uncomfortable. John has committed this action at the end of the first season of killing Danny, and that’s never going to be settled for him personally whether he gets arrested, doesn’t get arrested, any of that. It’s a crisis-of-conscience episode.

In 2005, UK television presenter and amateur archaeologist Tony Robinson edited and narrated a detailed rebuttal of the main arguments of Dan Brown and those of Baigent, Leigh, and Lincoln, "The Real Da Vinci Code", shown on Channel 4. [74] The programme featured lengthy interviews with many of the main protagonists, and cast severe doubt on the alleged landing of Mary Magdalene in France, among other related myths, by interviewing on film the inhabitants of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, the centre of the cult of Saint Sarah. Many fundamentalist Christians believe the Antichrist, prophesied in the Book of Revelation, plans to present himself as descended from the Davidic line to bolster his false claim that he is the Jewish Messiah. [70] The intention of such propaganda would be to influence the opinions, emotions, attitudes, and behavior of Jews and philo-Semites to achieve his Satanic objectives. An increasing number of fringe Christian eschatologists believe the Antichrist may also present himself as descended from the Jesus bloodline to capitalize on growing sympathy with the hypothesis in the general public. A presentation of analogous concepts in a Mormon context was published in 2006: Dynasty of the Holy Grail: Mormonism's Sacred Bloodline by art historian Vern Grosvenor Swanson. [54] Formatted as a footnoted scholarly study and claiming to be the culmination of almost three decades of research, the work was produced partly as a response to "a fuzzy gnostic, leftwing, liberal, and adamantly feminist bias" regarding the divine feminine and sacred marriage that pervaded recent literature concerning the subject, and that the author considered as "idiologically corrosive to faith in Jesus Christ". [30] [54] He nonetheless drew from the same pseudohistorical grail legend as Holy Blood, combining it with concepts related to British Israelism, beliefs of the early Mormon fathers, and modern genetic genealogy.
