About this deal

is suddenly way too intense, so I’ll be closer to 1:17. The grinder is suitable for a higher extraction style of brewing which is what you’ll typically experience in coffee shops.

Wilfa Uniform outperforms more expensive grinders in consistency and grind quality from medium-fine to medium-coarse. Yet for as much fussing as we would have had to do to make espresso, pour-over, which Reyna refers to as “the second hardest kind of coffee to make” was one and done. Wilfa recommends grinding it between steps 14 and 28. Sam ground on step 24 to use with a Kalita Wave dripper, and the coffee came out perfect, measuring 20.36 percent extraction (they like between 18 to 22 percent), and with total dissolved solids (TDS) of 1.40 percent. For French press peeps like yours truly, the grind was plenty coarse, and when I made some at home it was deeply flavored and not too sludgy. Easy peasy. How much this grind speed annoys you will depend on your coffee preparation workflow. Personally, thanks to the auto-off function, it didn’t bother me. I can boil my kettle, weigh my coffee, and start grinding. While the grinder goes on, I can prepare my pour-over dripper, mug, and filter paper. In every test, the grinder was ready before the kettle anyway. Grinding Capability – 3.5/5

Is the Fellow Ode Grinder Good for Espresso?

Sam wasn't a fan of the grounds bin, though. It's a nice metal but was difficult to fully empty and pour from. Here you can take a look at Wendelboe’s detailed product description video if you need any more convincing! Comparing the Wilfa to the Fellow Ode Brew Gen 2, there are a lot of options to weigh up. The Uniform + is a similar price point to the Ode, but the basic silver model of the Uniform (without scales) would be a more affordable option. Both Fellow and Wilfa's offerings are visually stunning but in different ways. The sleek rounded silhouette of the Wilfa has that Scandanavian-style appeal, whereas Fellow opt for a more angular design with textured elements. Grind collector could do with an engage switch (I’ve turned it on a few times without thinking in my morning daze).

But yep, the Wilfa can grind fairly well for espresso brewing. Its achilles heel is adjustment of grind. The steps on the grinder adjustment are just a bit too big for fine tuning espresso. Is the Wilfa Uniform coffee grinder for you? If you’re a lover of pour-over coffee who appreciates the clean and consistent cup afforded by flat burrs, absolutely. The Wilfa Uniform is one of the best coffee grinders of that style, and its price tag is very reasonable, given its performance and build quality. However, if you were to grind much coffee, say for a cupping session or in a professional setting, it would be an issue. I also like and appreciate how quiet this grinder is. It even dampens the noise the beans themselves make while being chewed up. You can really notice this by grinding with the lid on or off.You make espresso regularly: If you only rarely make espresso or you use a pressurized filter basket, the Wilfa Uniform is suitable as an all-around grinder. But serious espresso enthusiasts should choose something more specialized. The Niche Zero is a great alternative. It’s single dosing and has a conical burr set, which produces a more traditional chocolatey flavour profile. If you prefer a cleaner cup of flat burrs, the Eureka Mignon Facile is an attractive choice. You can make delicious coffee with either of them, and they’ll likely highlight different aspects of the coffee. Once fully out of the box and set up, my first impression is that the Wilfa Uniform is smaller than I imagined. Seeing photos of it online, I imagined it was this large monolithic tube that sat on your counter, similar in size and height to a Baratza Vario+. In real life, it’s a lot smaller.

Sitting on the counter, the Wilfa Uniform looks awesome and unique. We had a large dinner party over for Christmas, and everyone wanted to know what it was. It’s definitely Scandinavian modern with a nod towards Steve Jobs simplicity. The lid of the coffee beans container is simultaneously a scale with LED display, which measurement accuracy is 0,1 g. It is compatible with a special app via Bluetooth. There you can find tips and recipes for extraordinary coffee developed by Tim himself. We’d love to be able to put one through its paces, because it’s quite revered in several circles. Everything in our comparison is based on other peoples’ comments on the grinder. Pro-tip: With fragile devices like grinders, support is something worth having in mind. It’s worth remembering that Baratza’s support is likely better than Wilfa’s across the Atlantic, but in Europe, and Scandinavia specifically, the reverse is true. When brewing with the 4:6 Method on the Wilfa I have been close to the coarsest setting (setting 38 out of 41). For most other manual brewing recipes I have been grinding around setting 20-28 which seems to be the best range for this particular model. The new grinder isn’t huge compared to the old model. It’s pretty slow

Superkop Lever Espresso Machine One of the most unique espresso makers currently on the market, this is our First Look at the Superkop ratchet lever espresso machine. The power cord is relatively short at only 61 cm, so keep that in mind (or buy an extension cord) when considering where the Wilfa Uniform grinder will fit in your kitchen. Durability – 5/5 In keeping with the spare Scandinavian design style, there are no extraneous features or settings to learn. Just this four-step process:

So, I must start with a confession. I’ve never been a fan of single dose grinders. I’ve been even less of a fan of modifying regular hopper equipped grinders to work as single dose models. The digital kitchen scale is an updated version with improved rechargeable battery with USB-C charging, timer function and new accessories. Her reaction was that one bowl had less clarity compared to the other ones (the Lido 3) while the Helor and the Wilfa each stood out in their own way. Helor was sweeter, while the Wilfa was more clean and uniform. Higher extraction If you’re serious about espresso, it’s not an ideal grinder. However, if you want to have an occasional shot, it will probably work for you.On paper, the Ode appears to be similar to the Wilfa Uniform: big flat burrs (though housed vertically, instead of flat); single dose capable, big range of grind selections, and similar price.
