You want the boot to support your ankle when the ground is unstable, but not be uncomfortable to walk in. Now you wouldn't be trekking the Himalayas, but for the occasional hike with kids, there's no excuse not to kit yourself out. Things to look for when buying walking boots While many wearers appreciate the comfort and protective features, there are others that worry about the longevity of the shoe. This is to be expected with something at this price point. The furthest I've walked in these boots in one go is from Whitby bay to Robin Hood's bay ( apx 12miles ) and there were no rubbings, blisters or swore feet! They have gone out walking in wet grass and showers and not had any issue. But, then there are those that say it isn’t truly waterproof.

We managed to find 1 items that were made by Peter Storm and are categorised as “Waterproof Leather”. In this review of the Peter Storm Ormskirk walking boots, we give them a good dunking to see how waterproof they really are. *** There are various examples here. For a start, this is faux leather, not real leather – although this may make the shoe vegan friendly. Them, there is no brand name to the protective features or the sole – no Vibram or Gore-Tex. Taking them up on the hills and through muddy forests, the boots have remained comfortable and dry. I've had these bad boys for just over 2 years now, and admittedly I don't do 8 mile walks every week, but I do wear these shoes most days, (I even chose them over my Doc's now!) as they are just the most comfortable boots I've ever owned, and they don't look half bad either (until I tore the laces)!

The Peter Storm Grizedale Walking Boots look like a great choice for women that want a feminine shoe that can still hold up to long walks and bad weather. When buying Waterproof Leather, the quality of the product is going to be one of the factors that you really scrutinise before you commit to buying. Although the walking boots were soaked, it wasn't quite the same as a real downpour though: if you have waterproof trousers on, all that rainwater heads straight down to your boots, and if you've not protected your legs correctly (i.e. wear some gaiters - see here), your boots will fill with water. There are lots of comments from wearers impressed with the comfort provided by this shoe. One states that they went out for a six-mile walk on the first day and had no issues at all.

Zamberlan topped our walking boots survey. The brand was founded near the Piccole Dolomiti (Little Dolomites) mountain range in northern Italy and according to its customers, its boots would stand up to alpine terrain. Zamberlan’s boots, including many made from Italian leather, get the full five stars for comfort, durability, fit and water resistance. The only issue I've had is that the 'lace hooks' occasionally catch against each other/ the other shoe - but this is because I walk with my feet very close together, and tend to trip on my own feet regularly. The seam on one of them looks like it's starting to go - and I'm disappointed the laces frayed so soon, and most recently the fast wearing of the sole now making these boots unfit for purpose. These Peter Storm Grizedale Walking Boots appear to offer more quality and comfort than other similarly-priced shoes.

The sole is a Vibram sole, rather than a lesser name, with good grip. The uppers of the Peter Storm walking boots are waterproof – to begin with at least – and you also get a nice mesh lining inside. Altberg is another top-scoring boot brand from our survey. Its roots were laid in Richmond, North Yorkshire, in 1989, and its factory is still there today – as well as a second in Italy. The boots are handmade and the fit is something members seemed to like, awarding Altberg the full five stars in this category. Survey respondents loved that they could buy boots in half sizes and various widths - suiting those with both wide and narrow feet. verifyErrors }}{{ message }}{{ /verifyErrors }}{{ Lets’ start with the comfort provided by this Peter Storm walking boot. There is a strong upper across the foot that reaches up into a nice padded ankle. This looks like it will be great for longer walks, but there is more inside too.

The Peter Storm Rivelin Walking Boots have some nice details in the design to help wearers walk a little further. To give that price some context we then looked at all of the products available from Go Outdoors in the Waterproof Leather category. We found 29 items in total. What’s the price of Waterproof Leather? But, that doesn’t mean that they are a bad choice in the short term. The fit and feel of these smart shoes are great for general use, such as dog-walking or weekend walks on the wetter ground. So, the Peter Storm boots could still prove to be a great choice. Even with these concerns in mind, these boots are still easy to recommend to those on a budget. There are enough positive comments from happy buyers to suggest it might offer value after all, as there are no complaints about comfort or waterproofing. Another factor that can be a great indication of product quality is the brand. Brands like Peter Storm are of course extremely well known, especially for Waterproof Leather. One of the issues with weatherproofing is that some see a decline with time. This leads to questions over the need for greater care and maintenance of these boots. Then there are the protective features of this more practical women’s shoe. The uppers are made to be completely waterproof but also breathable with the liner.
