About this deal

Here you can make out Africa to the west, Asia to the north, Australia to the east, and Antarctica southeast. Perhaps as a nod to CIGA’s home, they’ve oriented the compass pointing north, toward China at the top of the globe. Movement: designed and customized by CIGA, manufactured by the Seagull Watch, automatic, power reserve 40 hours, 28,800 vph, 35 jewels, accuracy -15 to +30 spd.

Overall, the finishing is stellar. Though, I’ve noticed a possible defect in the blue of the ocean. Just above the compass, there appears to be some slight discoloration. CIGA Design evolves an all-new understanding of the Blue Planet. As a symbol of the enduring nature of eternity, gold has stood the test of time for millennia and mustn't be overlooked. With the debut of pure gold and masterful craftsmanship, the Blue Planet Gilded Age is a fusion of all the experience we have gained since creating the brand. It was born to be striking, both technically and aesthetically. The sporty yet stylish fluoro rubber naturally complements the dial and can be dressed up or dressed down. First of all, note that North America and Europe are not central to this globe, and are, in fact, absent. Instead we see Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East, which is fitting for a Chinese watch designed by a Chinese man. I’m all for it, as watchmaking’s tendency toward Eurocentrism has been a kind of pet peeve of mine for a while. The CIGA Design Blue Planet does one thing and does it exceptionally well. There’s a reason it won an award. It’s a striking watch with an obvious and powerful message — Planet Earth. That’s a broad statement that CIGA Design has eloquently wrapped up in a sentence no bigger than 46mm. If Earth means quite a lot to you — whatever the specifics of that may be — and you want to show it or at least be constantly reminded of it, the Blue Planet is for you. For me, it was enough to feel vaguely like an astronaut or alien gazing at Earth while wearing it to convince me of the watch’s merit and message. You know, the world is small, and time is fleeting. It’s not bad to spend your time smiling, which the Blue Planet certainly caused me to do.

Included is a matte blue fluoro rubber strap. FKM is a high density rubber known for its durability against harsh temperatures and chemicals while being soft and supple. On the wrist, it’s perfectly comfortable. Admittedly, I was a little confused by this when I first opened the watch. Until I flipped it over and peeked at the movement, I wasn’t sure if I got it up and running or not. Covered by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that is bound to last long and reveals every detail on the dial. In summary, don't think twice. If it's in your budget and you enjoy novel and intricate workings, just get it. It's beautiful, it wrks really, really well, it's different, and did I mention it's beautiful? It's beautiful... Just in case I forgot to say so. Enjoy!

CIGA, which stands for Chinese International Great Art, has won several design awards in their relatively short career. Looking at their catalog, they seem to have a penchant for skeletonized designs. Origine e Riconoscimenti:** Anche se l'azienda è cinese, questo orologio è un prodotto di livello internazionale. La vittoria del Challenge Watch Prize del GPHG 2021 ne è una chiara testimonianza. As the earth turns, so does the wheel of time, an endless cycle of evolution and change that has shaped our The titanium render portrays a much darker gunmetal finish, but in person it doesn’t look much different than a stainless steel watch. The only other difference between the two models is the 20 grams in weight. Design

U-Series Blue Planet Gilding Edition Automatic Watch - CIGA

My only actual gripe regarding the Blue Planet is the dead date position when pulling out the crown. For as unique as the mechanics of the watch are, I was reminded that it may be nothing more than a module set over a basic workhorse caliber every time I pulled the crown out. I wanted to stay seduced by the main show of the watch, which is all dial-side. Unfortunately, the phantom date interrupted that experience. The graduated scales and mariner’s compass give the whole piece the feel of an old-world navigational instrument. This is emphasized when operating the movement. Turning the crown and seeing everything in motion feels like dialing in coordinates. The globe is carved in relief and looks great from all angles. The contrast between the electroplated ocean and topographic landmasses serves to create a real sense of depth. Framing the Earth are the minute and hour scales. Patented automatic calibre integrated by 30 jewels with a power reserve of 40 hours and a movement frequency of 28800 times/hour.Attrazione:** Questo orologio attira tanta attenzione e trasmette un valore ben superiore al suo costo. È un simbolo di eleganza e sofisticazione.

CIGA Design U Series Blue Planet Hands-on Review of the CIGA Design U Series Blue Planet

I would’ve loved it if the globe rotated once every 24 hours as well. The rotation would not be accurate to Earth’s actual movement with the vantage point chosen for the Blue Planet, but it would’ve taken the metaphor and the mechanics just that one step further. I get what you mean but it would also be weird if it was European and didn’t have Africa and Asia 😅 Imagine everyone’s surprise in 2021, when Chinese brand CIGA Design was announced the winner of the Challenge Watch category of GPHG - The first-ever Chinese watch company to win. In the world of Swiss Watchmaking, it’s almost expected that a Swiss or Japanese brand would win any or all of the GPHG Awards, but CIGA beat them at their own game with the lovely Blue Planet - And man do we love it. Under most lighting conditions, it’s not detectable to the naked eye. Still, since I did notice it, I thought it worth mentioning. Movement of the universe. It's been a while since CIGA Design debuted a hybrid of the timepiece and Blue Planet, weExtra information about the Earth Day Edition CIGA Design, in collaboration with The Earth Day Organization, has launched this special edition gift box to put environmental protection into action. lt combines the watch and pendant using environmentally friendly decoration. There is a compass rose on the globe, nestled between Madagascar and Antarctica. The outer point is the arrow by which time is read. An automatic caliber unique to CIGA Design fully rotates the globe on the watch once every 12 hours, so that the compass points to the correct hour on the outermost ring. The outer hour ring does not move. The ring between it and the globe, however, does. This is the minute ring, and its rotation has been engineered so that the point on the globe always points to the correct minute. This setup causes the experience of initially setting the watch to be mildly disorienting in the best way. The globe spins and the minute ring flies by. Once the Blue Planet is wound and set though, the slowness of their rotation subdues the eccentricity. After having the Blue Planet on my wrist for a few days, I found it really comfortable to wear. This is mostly due to the light weight titanium case and the soft and flexible rubber strap. The piece doesn’t look huge on the wrist despite the 46mm case size, as there are no lugs. My only complaint about the watch so far is that the crown is a bit too tight to wind. Although this is not a big issue for an automatic watch, I hope that CIGA may improve the crown winding operation for the future shipments. A refine ceramic case with a sense of wholeness, lustrous finish, smooth & silky touch, resistance, and lightweight. It’s time to rethink Chinese watches. There is still a cloud that hangs over watches from China, a cloud of dismissive judgment that automatically assumes that if it’s (openly) made in China, it can’t be of any merit. The irony, of course, is that many of the high-end brands we hold dear outsource some or most of their manufacturing to the country. But more and more, Chinese brands are proving those assumptions wrong and demonstrating that the country has horological prowess beyond shadow manufacturing. In fact, brands like CIGA Design are winning awards–and not just participation ribbons. For the incredibly novel CIGA Design Blue Planet watch, the brand was the first Chinese winner of any award at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève—the Oscars of the watch world—beating out the likes of Oris and Doxa to take home the Challenge Award in 2021. Inspired by our responsibility to preserve the world around us, the Blue Planet doesn’t just impress with its three-dimensional representation of our planet—it presents a new way of displaying the time.
