Description

I would personally argue that the social sciences is the wrong approach to understanding and therefore guiding society. In its place I would argue for a long-term missions for the nations and the species as a whole, based on win-win rather than control. Treating humans as cogs in a system lead to some of the worst kinds of societies (ie. Communism, National Socialism (Nazism), etc.)" As I pointed out earlier, the Enthoven critique of numbers based performance targets talked about how folks gamed the numbers system while ignoring how people gamed the previous system (which, obviously, there was considerable unhappiness about, or else Enthoven wouldn't have been called in in the first place). *All* systems can be gamed (e.g. kissing your boss's ass). People were already enslaved to the existing paradigm before numbers came along. Sundus is the mute slave of the “recently blessed” Sultan and has stopped speaking because of the trauma he underwent from his castration. He and his father, Mutii, who was a former village chief were captured by the Sultan who amputated their sex and made them slaves. While the father accepts this fate as a sign of destiny, the young Sundus revolts from his condition and dreams of only one thing: to be free again.

If you do not agree with the vision that we are all trapped in a system of numbers and targets, just see this film document as you would a riefenstahl. Commend it on it's graphical excellence supported with great sounds, a vicious style and sublime directing. See it anyway if you like (political) documentaries. direct quote from the film: "Underlying game theory was a dark vision of human beings, who were driven only by self-interest, constantly distrustful of those around them. And there was a mathematician at the Rand Corporation who would take this dark vision much further. He set out to show that one could create stability through suspicion and self-interest, not just in the Cold War, but in the whole of human society." For children to build their own capacity to make positive change, they need to feel empowered. Exploring other people’s stories helps them make sense of the world and gives them confidence to express their own thoughts and opinions.Dreams Of Freedom work hard promoting the culture of Ireland through songs and music. This is one of their passions, telling the story of Irish history through song and music and in their own small part trying to preserve the long history of Ireland, from Famines and Rebellions to old stories and songs. The alliance with France had disastrous consequences for Saxony. Out of the 20,000 Saxons who were mobilised, only about 1,000 came home. Furthermore, as a result of the new division of Europe, sealed at the Congress of Vienna in 1814-1815, the kingdom lost 58% of its territory and 42% of its population. In the absence of its king (who was restored to the throne in 1815), Saxony was governed by a Russian governor general, Nikolai Repnin-Volkonsky. To analyze other situations, game theorists can 1) change the payoffs (e.g., where players are better off cooperating no matter what the other player does) 2) change the form of the game from the 2x2 normal form to something else. PD became so famous because it's a counterargument to Adam Smith's argument, and so it's the one always taught to intro students. However, it's only the tip of the iceberg, and even PD in repeated form becomes a very different beast. As time went by, civic consciousness began to grow among the Saxon community, leading to demands that the socio-political status quo be transformed. In the wake of popular unrest in 1830, the king of Saxony, Anthony the Kind, was compelled to sign a new constitution that granted more rights to the bourgeoisie. The display features a printed copy of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Saxony (1831-1832, Dresden City Museum). The spirit of historical change, however, continued to shape the kingdom's destiny thereafter. On March 3, 1849, an uprising began in Dresden, with the goal of abolishing the monarchy and establishing a republic. In Julius Scholtz's composition “Fighting on the Barricades in May 1849” (1849, Dresden City Art Gallery (Städtische Galerie Dresden - Kunstsammlung)), a heroic moment of resistance is represented with great documentary accuracy. A viewer who was so inclined might identify the central character aiming a gun as Mikhail Bakunin, who was “rescuing the failing revolution”. A poetic illustration of these events can be found in Johann Christian Friedrich Holderlin's “Hymn to Freedom”:

A Romantic's rebellious soul causes him to wander the globe in search of his spiritual homeland. Through painter Karl Gottfried Faber's eyes, even the view through his window betrays a wistful melancholy. Dresden appears truly minuscule, its silhouette melting into the horizon (“A View of Dresden”, 1824, Albertinum, DSAC). Have you ever taken an economics, political science, or sociology course? Social sciences are not based on control, but uncovering knowledge. *Governments* are based on control, and thus will sometimes misuse this knowledge, but as social scientists are employed privately as well as publicly and publish their knowledge in papers and books available to private citizens, so this does not argue against uncovering knowledge. If anything, it argues towards reining in government power and control. This is not a tangential critique. Part I is entitled "**** You Buddy" and completely revolves around Curtis's misapplication of this model. This is either due to malicious intent to mislead, or it's due to ignorance. Almost all introductory economics textbooks, from Paul Krugman's to N. Gregory Mankiw's, talk about the prisoner's dilemma *only* in the oligopoly chapter. So this is a misconception that could have very easily been rectified by simply consulting with an econ major undergrad. Also, I disagree that economic models are superficial. They make assumptions that mean they apply *narrowly*. There is a difference. You shouldn't use microeconomic models of individual choice upon aggregates. You shouldn't use Keynesian models to describe the long-term. You shouldn't use growth models to describe business cycles. This is why economics teaches so many models, so that you have a toolkit with many options to choose from. But these models can and do shed a lot of insight on the situations for which they apply. interestingly, the writer doesn't belabor the right's obvious use of these 'innovations', but rather the left's adoption of them, the only possible restraining force. Since asylum can be a confusing issue for children (and even adults), here are some books that explore what it really means to flee your home and have to start your life over. Yes, Curtis is not theorizing a new approach for the social sciences. If anything, his documentaries oppose the manipulation of much of the what the social scientists attempt. His point of view is that from a moral vantage point."
