I have a Philips 58pus8555 TV so really only want something for occasional recordings, no need for any smart bells & whistles as the TV has it all, it would help if it was fast and user friendly. I tried your first suggestion of trying the PVR with no HDD and it behaves EXACTLY the same as it did with the HDD in! The same looping logos forever, the recovery menu comes up but as before none of the option will do anything. So I think from this we can conclude the HDD is almost certainly dead as the box works just as well (not at all) with it as without.I have repaired several of these boxes last one was a humax 9300t with a failed drive fitted a 128 gb ssd drive taken from an alienware laptop wiped partitions fitted into cradle formatted and away it went. In terms of what really matters to most people - picture and sound quality are absolutely fine. It's silent in use. It gets fairly hot but that seems to apply to all YV boxes. The box is pretty basic - no led display to tell you what channel you are watching, for example, but I've never really seen a need for that anyway. Am using the latest firmware which sorred out a lot of well documented issues (problems with surround sound being the one that bugged me the most). The new firmware that is starting to appear looks good but no idea or info on how well that works with any particular box as yet. If you’re upgrading from an old BT YouView box, bear in mind that there’s no way to transfer recordings to the new one. The YouView app supports only one box at a time, so you’ll need to head to your iPhone or Android settings and delete the unique number for your old box before firing up the app again and running through the set-up process again. There are no fans, so it’s virtually silent except for the exceptionally quiet whirring of the laptop-style hard drive. Unless you’re right next to the box, this is inaudible, so it’s ideal for bedrooms as well as the living room or kitchen. Note that the Ultra HD version does have a fan, which can be a little irritating in a quiet room.

Each of the different platforms is developed by the parent channel, so there's a different look and feel to each. I have the BT T2100 box that's much the same as the T2110 and they are great boxes. Member you wont have a 4k(UHD) tuner in the other box like to do with the T4000 apart from that and the hard drive space there is no much difference software wise. Just to note you don’t get Freeview via any Sky box. You need an aerial for Freeview which is the UK's terrestrial TV service. These instructions to fix my BT box are an absolute godsend. The tell-tale sign of a beeping HDD was enough to convince me that this was worthwhile pursuing….and sure enough it worked. The only problem I had was trying to get the maintenance screen up once the HDD had been replaced – it took about 3-4 attempts before the box finally responded and after that it was plain sailing from then on in. Box is fully up and running now. So thanks for the instructions and saving another bit of kit from going to set top box heaven – as well as doing my bit for saving the planet. She just uses the box as a Freeview PVR and for the free catch up players as well as the Netflix app. The TalkTalk boxes are at least slightly slower in their operation. I have the fastest of the talk talks (DN372T v1) and find it only just tolerable but that is a very subjective view. You may have a Hard Drive failer on the T4000 box that is why it is not starting up, you just need to replace the Hard Drive Fast, clean, proper searching, a proper skip button and all the rest. Excellent box - so far so good.I have a slightly newer Sony Brava TV and can't recall a single issue with handshaking (unlike my HDR-2000T). HDMI handshaking for me is as sold as with my HDR-FOX T2s (1.03.12 and 1.02.20). Excellent quality connects via bluetooth to wifi no extra cables to run also allows tv to connect to free view on separate AV channel. One of YouView’s best features is global search. Press the YouView button and choose Search – results will be shown from live TV as well as on-demand players and internet channels.

If you do not have a BT TV subscription but your box is still connected to the internet then updates will still go ahead as you are used to. BT do still have some control over when updates take place on your 91-00438 but there is no differentiation between one using a BT TV subscription, one using BT as their ISP but no subscription, and one using a different ISP. I live nearby, and when I bring my own Humax DTR-T1000 to their house it receives the above channels no problem. I get the channels no problems at my own house a mile away. Brilliant, not a well known name, but has a great interface which allows you to go directly to iPlayer to watch the programme from the start and also a menu to switch to HD as well as record.I have left the HDD out of the box and might try it in the PC but I'd be surprised if it will be able to see it either.
