If you’re a fitter or teaching professional looking to leverage data, more than likely you’ll need to look at the enterprise solutions. SkyTrak offers some fitting capabilities and the bag-mapping feature (also available in the Rapsodo MLM) is impressive. If you’re only going to hit a few dozen balls at a time, battery life may not be relevant. For longer sessions, especially when using video features, battery drain can be an issue. Even the best golf launch monitors must be easy to use. For most of us, practice time is limited and it shouldn’t be wasted trying to configure, connect and use a device meant to help us improve faster. Some units require more precise placement at setup. Depending on the quality of the cameras, some camera-based launch monitors struggle under certain lighting conditions and in highly reflective environments.

One of the biggest problems with using the Mevo is trying to figure out how to properly place your phone so that you can easily access and view the data, or position it for using the camera (more on that in a minute). If we’re being honest, some of the data points are pretty weak. I think I’m on solid ground when I say that no one cares about their shot’s flight time. Also, making total distance a unique parameter if you have carry and roll feels flimsy, as does shot shape. Both apps are reasonably user friendly. There is a fair amount of depth in the settings, but much of that can be ignored if you prefer a plug-and-play experience. In both apps, you can customize the data displayed and use video. Video needs to be recorded by your phone or tablet, so I wish FlightScope had included some kind of phone mount the way Garmin did with the R10 [review HERE].

Those who want an affordable launch monitor indoors need at least eight feet of flight distance before the ball hits the impact net.

Consider buying used if you’re on a budget.How is Rapsodo’s operation in 100 degree sunny weather? I think the phone would have overheat problems, the screen will be hard to see as it overheats. So can it work with in umbrella giving a shade over the machine? It would display the same data view that you customized on the device immediately after every shot you hit. Since none of these devices are as accurate as a gc quad. Stating not as accurate as said gc quad is well ….to put it bluntly a completely useless thing to list under con. While I don’t exactly have a super scientific way to judge the accuracy, I did my best. I took a rangefinder and got the exact distance to one of the pins, and then hit balls with a gap wedge and based on my shot would try and guess how far the ball was based on the proximity to the flag.
