Ok, I can hang with that…what I can’t hang with is the name calling hurling insults, threats of physical violence and then the ACTUAL violence. In the process of this fued, the cat “looses” (by way of the fox) her tail and it gets nailed to the wall of the foxes den. Then the appendage is used to tease the cat and ultimately distract the cat while a bird comes down and decapitates said cat. WHAT?! WHY?! This was a cute read, but I can’t quite put my finger on which students to recommend it to, My first and second graders could not get hooked - we even used it as a daily read aloud. It feels a little juvenile for fourth and fifth. Maybe I’ll try it with my own third grader this summer.
