There`s a new blog post at thetwistedyarn.com (or see link in bio). It`s a little different from normal, as it pays tribute to my recently deceased aunt. But don`t worry, normal yarny shenanigans will resume next post. As for the pattern charts, an incredible amount of work has clearly gone into the detail. It probably helped that the book’s translator is herself an avid knitter. I’ve knitted a few of the charts so far, and as long as your brain is switched to ‘on’, they’re fine. Description: Learn the version of Continental knitting traditionally used in Lithuania and many other parts of Eastern Europe. This technique is sometimes called Combination or Eastern Uncrossed knitting in the west, but in Lithuania it’s known as Grandma’s Knitting. This is a fast way to knit and many knitters find it gives them the most even tension of any technique they’ve tried. A knitting gauge is a small tool made of plastic, metal or wood. Like a slice of Swiss cheese, it has a bunch of variously sized holes all over it.

Goal setting: Coaches assist clients in setting clear writing goals and developing a plan to achieve those goals. This can include outlining a book, completing a thesis, or improving writing skills for a specific purpose, such as business communication. Materials: Approximately 2 skeins of approx 100 yards of worsted-weight yarn (each a different color) for knitting a sampler, size 7 (4.5mm) or 8 (5mm) knitting needles, basic knitting tools. this article states “We’ve been publishing a series of articles on Japanese knitting patterns in Amirisu magazine, and they are available for free (online versions). Hope that will help a lot of adventurous knitters!”It was while looking for sweater patterns on Ravelry that Japan once again crept into my mind. I found myself being drawn to patterns with some element of interesting shaping, be it a puffy sleeve or boxy waist. Many of the designers were Japanese. I then tweaked my Ravelry search to only include knitwear designers in Japan(oh Ravelry, your search options are endless!), and the result below is a selection of some of the favorite patterns I came across. Whether it is drape, pleats, boxiness, puffed out sleeves, or cropped tops with textured cables, each of these patterns feature some element that I find inspiring and atypical from the usual patterns I come across. You like monochrome texture, with plenty of lace and cable. The occasional involvement of a crochet hook doesn’t faze you.

If you have knitting needles from all over the world or of unknown origins, your best bet for identifying their size is by using a knitting gauge. Materials: 2 balls of worsted-weight yarn in different colors (approx 100 yards each), set of 5 appropriately sized double- pointed needles (or 2 circulars or 1 long circular for magic loop), a crochet hook of the same size, basic knitting toolkit Haramaki (腹巻, literally “belly wrap” or “bellyband” in Japanese) are designed to keep your middle warm and stylish. This haramaki has straps, too, so that it can be wrapped around your body and bound in front. It is knitted flat and all in garter stitch. Designed by Sybil R Re-reading this fascinating book - Interaction Of Colo(u)r by Josef Albers - whilst I write the chapter about using colour in stranded knitting for my own book. Highly recommend the Albers book if you fancy a really deep dive into how and why colours behave so differently, depending on their neighbours. Other Names: Despite the fact that Portuguese knitting is done around the world and is less tied to a specific location than any other style of knitting, Portuguese knitting does not have any other common names.Unlike Swiss cheese, these holes are precisely sized for measuring knitting needles! This is a standard plastic gauge for measuring knitting needle sizes.
