Ultimate Guard Katana Sleeves are a newer sleeve from the popular accessory maker and bring premium quality at a premium price. They are made from 100% polypropylene material that is both acid-free and PVC-free. To evaluate seam strength, we grab each side of the sleeve and pull until either the plastic warps or the seams split. We can then determine the amount of force required to split the sleeve and compare it to other sleeves as reference. To test how well the Cortex sleeves double-sleeve, we combined both the Regular and Matte versions with 100 of 7 different inner sleeves. This means a total of 700 ins and outs for each Cortex variant! That is a lot of sleeving and un-sleeving and a lot of information. The condensed results are as follows: I've basically always used Perfect Fits for my inner sleeves, and have never had an issue. Outer sleeves in general have more variety in my opinion. I appreciate the durability of Dragon Shield, but I know many who swear by the feel of Katanas.

If you’re looking for reliable card protection with plenty of colorful options, consider investing in Ultimate Guard’s Katana Sleeves. They provide great value by offering lasting durability, an incredible shuffle feel, and vibrant and opaque colors at an affordable price. For sleeves with images , the images will begin to pull away from the sleeve, causing many sleeves to be unusable after that. The thinness of the sleeves means they don't take as much abuse as a Dragon Shield. I'm noticing lots of little dings and dents on my sleeves that I never experienced with Dragon Shields, mostly on the edges.A diverse community of players devoted to Magic: the Gathering, a trading card game ("TCG") produced by Wizards of the Coast and originally designed by Richard Garfield. Dragonshild Sleeves had a little bit more space on Top (its a Problem for me, because Sleeves tear/kink by my shuffeling-Style (And yes, i try to sleeve upside down). Katanas had no space there, thas perfekt for me. KMC may not be as durable/bombproof however I have the absolute confidence that my cards are properly sleeved and will definitely handle my kitchen table/FNM gameplay.

I have heard the Katana are good but I'm not going to toss my old sleeves to change over even if better as the Eclipse are still outstanding. Protect your cards like a Samurai with Ultimate Guard's Katana sleeves! Honoring the tradition of great Japanese craftmanship, these precision-made, top-of-the-line sleeves are fully opaque, extremely durable and will meet the highest standards of players and collectors alike! With this new Cortex range, Ultimate Guard have managed to improve upon their Supreme sleeves without breaking the bank, and they should certainly be a consideration on your outer sleeve shortlist. I know Dragon Shield sleeves have a large fanbase in the community and I also realize some or maybe even most of the listed solutions are on the higher end of the sleeve price spectrum. Opaqueness isn’t a new issue however and if you ever went to a tournament before, this is something you probably had to handle somehow. Besides, your cards love you (even when they give you agendas instead of ICE) and don’t they deserve some quality, opaque love in return? For a full breakdown of our Cortex sleeve results as well as our findings for many other sleeves, please visit our Ultimate Double Sleeving Guide. For both dragon and KMC I dont think either of them have significant extra room or gap that your talking about when double sleeved. Not as tall as a Dragon Shield (the cut is similar to Ultra Pro Eclipse), so there's no issue of "baconing" on the top edge over time. I c b r g r so using KMC inners and outers has been very good? Do the KMC outer sleeves have that gap above the top of the card like dragon shields do? Thanks for the suggestion as I was heavily considering KMC, so just want to confirm that they are good for double sleeving with their inners and outers :)

As far as Dragon shield vs KMC is concerned) From what I hear from various pools of people DRAGON SHIELDS are supposed to be the more durable product... I just personally have a very hard time properly double sleeping them.... the Professor/tolarian community college YouTube channel has a very good demonstrations of showing this issue. There has been a lot of talk lately about Katana sleeves and how they compare to other sleeves, so I thought I would write this review for the benefit of those who are curious about them. While both the matte and regular versions fall under the same Cortex umbrella, there are significant differences between the two in durability and ease of double-sleeving. That being said, both versions are fit for use and the deciding factor should always be the matte vs shiny finish of the display.

If you’re new to the game you might wonder why sleeves matter at all, why can’t you just use any brand and type? Quoting the NISEI Organized Play Policies (this had been the same during FFG days, by the way): Null Signal Games is not associated with, produced by, or endorsed by Fantasy Flight Games, R. Talsorian Games, or Wizards of the Coast. Our one complaint about Ultimate Guard Katana sleeves would be the colors. While there are currently 10 to choose from, they aren’t exciting. In fact, each color is pretty basic compared to Dragon Shield’s lineup of colors. We hope that Ultimate Guard continues adding new colors and styles to the Katana lineup as it is arguably its biggest shortcoming right now.
