You may always need to do minor repairs on any old camera no matter the condition unless it has been serviced or refurbished before the sale. Common jobs include replacing crumbling light seals or lubing internal mechanisms that have dried out.

A key takeaway from this is that for nearly half the price of the K1000, you can get a camera that you can take as good images on and it’ll be easier. We can’t answer any of those questions, but to learn everything you’ll ever need to know about the Pentax ME, read on. I only ever had an original ME fully auto, as a ‘pair’ with a MX and was perfectly happy with the exposure compensation dial.. We talked earlier about Pentax’s lenses when we were discussing the ME’s portability, but to wrap things up without further expounding the virtues of the K-mount system would be a bit lax. Here, again, we’re pleasantly surprised by the incredible performance of the Pentax glass. At the added cost of weight and size, the SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/1.4 is almost a stop faster than the f/1.7. Expect to pay more than you would for an f/1.7 or f/2 lens. The subsequent revision, the SMC Pentax-A, and earlier version, SMC Pentax, will both work with the ME Super. SMC Pentax 50mm f/1.2 SMC Pentax 50mm f/1.2 In comparison to other two cameras of the same class I own (Canon A-1 and Fujica AX-5) the Super A is a step forward the Canon because it allows a fully manual mode, yet without showing the lens aperture which is annoying, while the AX-5 has an overall better display with two rows of leds (one for the aperture and one for the shutter speed) so you always know what you are doing. The Super A shows the lens aperture just in program and shutter priority mode. You can set this zoom to 40mm exactly, i like this 40 mm focal length, and the results are wonderful.

Fungus is also common with vintage SLR lenses, this usually looks like branches crawling over the inside of your lens. If there isn’t too much fungus then you shouldn’t worry, if there’s a lot then it’s definitely not good at all, it’s very hard to dismantle a lens and I wouldn’t suggest trying it if you haven’t got experience. Also, there can be small pieces of dust in your lens, usually, that is not a major issue but it’s worth keeping an eye out for. My Experience & Opinion Owned Super Program for over 2 years. For me this is my first film camera (shame on me ), however this one opens the door for me. Similar to other camera companies, Pentax released a 50mm halo lens. The resulting SMC Pentax 50mm f/1.2 is a high-priced, fast, and huge hunk of glass. The lenses were junk, they couldn’t replicate the look of the Pentax primes I had come to love. But the Pentax Super Program – that was the real find. The Pentax ME Super is a highly successful 35mm single-lens reflex camera produced by Pentax of Japan between 1979 and 1984. The first few rolls I put through came out surprisingly well. This camera is just so easy to use. I missed focus numerous times – which should be expected as this was my first time shooting a manual camera. What impressed me the most was how everything came out correctly exposed. I’d rate the light meter trustworthy and accurate. The only incorrectly exposed photos that came out of the camera were due to operator error. I haven’t used any of the automated modes and cannot comment on their effectiveness, but if the meter works this well in manual I’m sure the various automatic and priority modes are fine. I find myself pulling the Pentax Super Program off the shelf more than any of my other cameras. Both from a subjective and specification perspective, it’s probably the best body I own. The ease of use, the features, the ergonomics, and the cross compatibility with my modern Pentax gear makes it a clear favorite. It’s become my go-to for when I’m on the road, especially if I’m also traveling with a digital body. If I had to get rid of every film camera I own, save for one, the Pentax Super Program would be the keeper. I think of it that highly. On a side note when breaking out this camera with the motor drive af400t and lens... i always get attention... attention i use to bring people into the Pentax brand.

Mine was my Christmas present in 1982, replacing my Zenit EM. It came with an excellent SMC 50mm f1.7 lens and a free book! They are referred to as standard lenses since the angle of view is close to what the human eye sees. SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7 SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7 The lens Pentax made in the same year for the ME as a standard lens was the pancake 40mm F2.8. With this lens, the ME was the first version of the smallest SLR ever made. It also takes nice pictures, especially landscapes and street photography. If you do not currently own it, a capable initial lens to get a hold of is the SMC Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7. The 50mm f1.7 is easy to find, is light, has fantastic photo quality, is cheap, and streamlined At its intended purpose, the ME is pretty fabulous. It’s one of those rare values in the world of vintage cameras that offers a near perfect balance of assets; excellent form factor, robust construction, technical prowess, and low cost. There are similar cameras in its category that may be just as good (Nikon’s EM springs to mind), but no camera in its segment is decidedly superior to the ME.
