The former is essentially identical to the product on review here, but doesn't include internet radio, while the latter is a stereo version of the Pure Elan Connect. So, if internet radio isn’t essential, then you can spend less; if you want the same features and stereo sound, you can spend more.

In many ways it is a bigger, stereo version. There's a, perhaps more mature, matt finish, and there's the addition of the ability to pause, rewind and fast forward live radio. This ‘Revu' button automatically records the past 15 minutes so you can always rewind if you missing something. So the Pure One Classic Series II is a pretty good all-rounder but there are obstacles ahead of it, and the most dangerous are – at the moment – its predecessors. The amendments made in this “Series II” adjustment are not essential, while the falling price of the old guard makes buying one while they’re still around seem very attractive. You can nab the first-gen Elite model for five pounds less than the Series II at present, and we’d rather have the sound quality improvements of its dual-speaker system than the rather limited recording skills of the Listen Later feature. Pure is a leader in stylish, delightfully simple audio products that inspire joyful listening, no matter what format. Pure - we are experts for stylishly designed and simple to use music systems. Whether that’s an internet radio with incorporated DAB and DAB+ technology or an outdoor or smart speaker. With our range of award-winning audio products we are amongst the leaders for digital radios globally. If you have one of the following models or if your radio is showing 'For upgrades, visit pure.com', you may need to upgrade your radio for DAB+ support.A tap on the Listen Later button brings up a menu, where you set the time, recording duration, the frequency (once only, daily, all week days, weekends only and once a week) and the station to record. If you have a programme you listen to all the time – the Archers, or Stuart Maconie’s Freak Zone perhaps – this will come in very handy, but it’s very constrained compared with what the old Pure Evoke 3 offers. That top-end model features a card slot, letting you archive recordings rather than just wipe them instantly.

It’s within The Lounge that the radio starts to feel as if it’s straining against the limitations of its interface. Internet radio stations and podcasts can be browsed by letter, or searched for by selecting each letter within a virtual keyboard using the Select dial. This is rather basic compared with some rivals, which let you single-out “local” (usually within the same country) stations, and often even have a separate sub-menu for BBC channels. Its fun, bouncy sound works well with music and isn’t too harsh on the lower-quality stations doing the rounds on the DAB spectrum – some use such a low bit-rate as to be all-but unlistenable. Some voice-only broadcasts can make the One Flow sound a little too bass-driven – a tiny bit muffled – but it’s one of the best-sounding models of its size. It’s a pity there are no equalisation options available here, as having some basic control over bass and treble levels could have solved this small issue. The manual for the Pure One doesn’t list a way to display the serial number. We’ve tried on our One Mi Series 2 and can only see the software version and the device identifier. If you still have the box for the radio the serial number may be displayed on the outside.

Don't use washing up liquid and hot water. I tried this on ours and the covering started peeling off instead of cleaning. As of December 2020 the Pure Elan One is the cheapest digital radio we can find from the brand. Sound quality from the Pure Elan One The Pure One Classic Series 2 showcases its information on an LCD display, which can present up to 32 digits at a time. The display type is clear and easy to read, providing users with a seamless navigation experience. The relative paucity of what’s on offer here also helps to keep the interface dead simple – and means the basic 2-line display is perfectly adequate. Pure’s connected units use more advanced AMOLED screens, but the monochrome display here is perfectly clear. Viewing angles are reasonably good which is helpful when glancing at the time and date in standby mode. I can’t receive Radio X on my Pure Evoke 1XT. Where do I apply for the free software available to upgrade my radio? Applicable models: Chronos 2, Contour 100Di, Elan 2, Evoke 1S, Evoke 2S, Highway, One Classic, One Classic Series 2, One Elite, One Elite Series 2, One Mi, One Mi Series 2, Siesta, Siesta Mi, Siesta Mi Series 2 A potential downside of the display is that the text is much smaller than on some other Pure radios and the similarly priced Roberts Play 10. Although the display is bright and the text is clear some users may still prefer larger text with less information. Our verdict on the Pure Elan One
