The CF Allroad Pro feels less like competing suspension seatposts offered by Redshift and Cane Creek and more like you’re running a higher-volume rear tyre. Less chatter and vibration makes its way from the road to the rider, with minimal movement to distract you from the task at hand. The other dropper option is the PNW Coast, which has 40mm of suspension travel and is the best-value dropper, by far. Take control - customizing your suspension feel to float over obstacles so you can maintain control Stem Details: This air spring system has been tested by GravelBikes.cc to be much less active than other suspension seatposts, but it’ll still take the edge off those bigger hits, and performs well on gravel roads too.

Suspension seatposts are available with anything from 20 to 90mm of travel. So, how much travel is best for you?Would you recommend it for a roadbike (riding lots of hills from 5-15% on decent and broken tarmac) nonetheless?

I also ran a suspension fork for this year’s event, and having a bit of front and rear compliance kept me fresh and comfortable, and allowed me to pedal through rough terrain. Elastomer springs are the quiet achievers as they are much less noticeable underneath you. This is the result of elastomers having an inherently slower rebound speed after an impact, which is particularly beneficial while riding on fast, bumpy surfaces like gravel roads. For anything slow and off-road, you cannot beat a spring-damped seatpost. These posts are incredibly active underneath you and will allow you to stay seated on rough surfaces for MUCH longer.First, why would you want to vary the position of your saddle while riding on the road? The main reasons are aerodynamics and comfort, which are both important criteria for ultra-distance cyclists. The Cirrus KINEKT 2.1 is an aluminum suspension seatpost that’s designed to isolate your body from surface vibrations and impacts to improve comfort and control. Each post comes with two extra springs so you can mix and match, creating a custom experience. The KINEKT post springs are available in five color-coded tensions for riders ranging from 50-320 pounds. A single 5mm Allen bolt secures the two halves together, and in addition to securing both sides of the seatpost, this bolt is responsible for saddle tilt adjustments. Aerobars] How do aerobars affect my bike fit? This is a really important question, and it's one that we've spent a lot of time thinking about here at Redshift Sports, so get ready for a long answer! Given that cyclists often have 60 to 70% of their body weight on their saddle, I don’t know if there is any other component that offers as much of an improvement in ride comfort (assuming you’ve already optimised your tyre width and pressure).

The eeSilk Post comes in a 27.2 diameter and is 350mm in overall length. Interchangeable elastomers allow the post to accommodate riders ranging from 100 lbs (45kg) to 330 lbs (150 kg). However, would you recommend the Redshift post to be used on a roadbike? I ride lots of hills from 5-15% on decent and on broken tarmac. Meanwhile, the elastomer Cane Creek eeSilk offers around half as much vibration improvement, however, it’s worth noting that it only has around half the suspension travel (20mm). It’d be interesting to see how a longer-travel elastomer seatpost compares here.If you ride a mix of gravel and tarmac roads, I don’t know if you can do any better than the Cane Creek eeSilk. We offer two different shapes of aerobar extensions: L-Bends and S-Bends. The L-Bends (or ski-bends) tend to place your wrists in a more ergonomic, comfortable position that's great for long rides and triathlons. The S-Bends let you pull against the extensions effectively for intense time-trial efforts. Not sure which one is best for you? We generally recommend the L-Bend extensions if you're on the fence. Cane Creek’s eeSilk suspension seatpost offers 20mm of elastomer-based vertical compliance and is made from forged and machined aluminum with titanium fastening hardware. This emphasis on premium materials, along with the post’s minimalistic design, means the eeSilk weighs in at less than 300 grams–a comparable weight to many performance alloy seatposts. Wilde Bikes X Country Bar: Getting Rolling – Velofed on Gravel Grinder News: Wilde Bicycle Co. Debuts This is a lengthy review, so use the shortcuts below to skip to the section that you’re most interested in.

Because my shoulders remained at the same height, changing the seatpost has not directly affected my aerodynamics. However, the improved comfort and sustainability of using the aerobar position allows me to stay in that position for longer and so it yields indirect aerodynamic gains. But there is a cost to this high reactivity. I’ve found that when spring posts are perfectly set up for rough terrain, they bob more than I’d like on smooth surfaces.

The RedShift Dual-Position Seatpost is unique because it allows the rider to change the fore and aft saddle position while riding, with the goal being to give an optimal position when riding on either the drop bars or the aerobars. Dropper seatposts allow mountain bikers to raise and lower their saddles for different types of terrain and have become very common over the past few years. Could a similar thing happen for ultra-distance cyclists using something like the RedShift seatpost? Lastly, we have air springs, which are sometimes used in telescopic seatposts. The main advantage is that you can adjust the spring stiffness to a higher degree of accuracy. Suspension Seatpost Designs One thing I really liked about the Kinekt is the saddle rail clamp. It has two simple screws to tighten and adjust the saddle. There’s a spring that keeps tension to separate the lower and upper plate. This self-fixes the nuts into place so you don’t have to hold them while loosening or tightening the plate into place. A nice touch. But interestingly, data recently collected by the University of Exeter (England) suggests that once the seatpost is installed on a bike, it may not reduce vibration exposure. All of our routes will be available as usual, however we recommend you call ahead if you plan on stopping off at a pub just to ensure they are happy to accommodate your group.
