About this deal

We add a splash of spirit from the Tobermory whisky stills to Grain Neutral Spirit to make the base spirit for our gin. All our botanicals including heather, Hebridean tea, juniper and sweet orange peel, are steeped for a mimimum of 24 hours in the base spirit. Goes great with: A sprig of thyme, slice of blood red orange, a pinch of dried hibiscus flowers, tonic and ice. Unique to Tobermory Gin, a splash of spirit from the Tobermory whisky stills is added, creating a standout character, unlike any other.

Starting as a blank canvas, the base spirit is distilled over and over until it is clean, fresh and ready to take on the vibrant array of flavours from the island’s rich palate. We'll start the experience off with a taste of the award winning Tobermory Hebridean Gin, followed by a neat dram of our limited Tobermory Mountain Gin and a neat dram of our new distillery exclusive Tobermory Coast Gin. The experience will end on a classic Tobermory gin serve which you'll create yourself. The idea to produce a gin came about when the distillery had the opportunity to buy a 60-litre 1950s copper still from South Africa. They shipped it all the way to Mull, refurbished and installed it, and called it Wee Betty. (Betty’s a popular name for Scottish gin stills, as The Botanist from Islay is made in Ugly Betty.)Fill a tall glass with ice and add 50ml of Hebridean Mountain gin and a squeeze of your selected citrus fruit (we've chosen pink grapefruit). Over 220 years later, and they’ve decided to add a gin to their range. There are 13 botanicals that go into the Hebridean Gin and these include juniper, tea, heather, elderflower, and sweet orange peel, which are fresh from the island if they grow there. There’s also an intriguing addition to both make the gin different and to connect it with their whisky heritage, as they add a drop or two of spirit from the whisky stills into the gin.

Ensuring a true taste of the island is hugely important to the blend, as is demonstrated with the inclusion of a pinch of Hebridean tea, grown by a local on Mull. Read More Related ArticlesLavender adds beautiful sweet floral notes and helps to balance the saltiness from the kelp and samphire

Situated on the Hebridean island of Mull in the coastal fishing town of Tobermory, the Tobermory Distillery, originally called the Ledaig Distillery, was established in 1798. The seafront and harbour is famous for its rainbow coloured row of houses and shops that overlook the Sound of Mull, the expanse of water between the east side of the island and mainland Scotland. On the nose the juniper isn’t too powerful, and is balanced by a sweetness, perhaps from the elderflower. There are citrus aromas too, and a hint of maltiness from the whisky. It’s certainly unique.
