In December 2020, Netflix released a four-part documentary entitled The Ripper, which recounts the police investigation into the murders with interviews from living victims, family members of victims and police officers involved in the investigation. Retrieved 6 January 2018. The story of the Yorkshire Ripper is incredibly sad. What he did to these women, the investigation, the hoax. Still, after so many years the book about the ripper will never be closed. Did he kill more women? I don't know. In hindsight it is always easy to see patterns and clues.

Why wasn't major evidence used at the trial? Why have the reports into what went wrong been hidden from the public? Why don't police forces around the country want their unsolved and potential Ripper murders investigated? So many unanswered questions remain about this case including why Sutcliffe was transferred from an ordinary prison to Broadmoor even though the jury at his trial ruled he is bad not mad? a b c d Heenan Bhatti (director) (4 March 2021). [ self-published source?] I think the thing which annoyed me most while reading this book was the report filed by two police officers who interviewed Sutcliffe some time before he was arrested and who were convinced he was the man they were looking for were ignored completely. The report which they filed has since disappeared from the records. Why did no one listen to them or even consider conducting a more thorough interview with Sutcliffe under caution? Even if it was only done to eliminate him from the investigation? It seemed to me, reading this book, that the police were reluctant to formally interview anyone. Brannen, Keith, ed. (26 June 1977). I'm hoping that will help me get to sleep tonight. That and the fact that he died a couple of years ago. I was a teenager/early 20s and living in Leeds at the time that the Ripper carried out his horrendous crimes and remember the fear that every woman felt, and the relief on hearing he had been caught. At that time no one knew of the mistakes the police made, and the fact that the police and government will still not release the findings of the two inquiries until 2045 beggars belief. Misogynies. Faber and Faber. ISBN 0-571-16807-8.In 2015, authors Chris Clark and Tim Tate published a book claiming links between Sutcliffe and unsolved murders, titled Yorkshire Ripper: The Secret Murders. [102] It alleged that between 1966 and 1980, Sutcliffe was responsible for at least twenty-two more murders than he was convicted of. [102] The book was later adapted into a two-part ITV documentary series of the same name, which featured both Clark and Tate. [96] Of the 22 cases investigated, I'm convinced that Sutcliffe was guilty of the majority of them, though not all. Phillips, Caroline. "How I got Into The Mind Of The Ripper". Evening Standard . Archived from the original on 11 January 2022 . Retrieved 16 October 2019. This was a campaign of murder which terrorised the population of a large part of Yorkshire for several years. The only explanation for it, on the jury's verdict, was anger, hatred and obsession. Apart from a terrorist outrage, it is difficult to conceive of circumstances in which one man could account for so many victims. [153]
