All in all, this is one manga I want to continue because I need to know if Ayako and Takumi get together. I want to see some dates. Yes, I am rooting for these two and I hope that it works out despite the huge age difference. And bet this'll be some weird School Days situation that's gonna happen, and I'm really tired of these love triangle bs in these types of stories to create some artificial drama, and call it a "romantic comedy". It tells the tale of Ayako Katsuragi, a capable single mom of an adopted child Miu, as Ayako struggles to come to terms with the fact that her neighbor, a boy she knew 10 years ago when he was only 10 and she 20, has feelings for her. When Ayako's sister and brother-in-law die in an accident, she's the only person willing to take in her orphaned niece Miu. She doesn't mind, though – after all, she loves Miu, and it even looks like the young man next door has a crush on her! But as it turns out, he does have a crush on someone in the house…it just isn't Miu! Ms. Red Ink: Ayako attempts to invoke this to make Takkun stop being in love with her, but her common sense wins out, and she doesn't go through with buying a purse costing hundreds of thousands of yen. As I first started reading the first chapter of the manga the love confession between the tutor, and the mom was very sweet to me but then later on in the story, there were some moments that were a bit cringey and a little bit of humor in the balance of the story. Age is a funny thing. We've all read manga that equates being over thirty with being middle-aged, and that really drives home the idea that along with being a simple set of numbers that delineates how long you've been alive, age is also very much a social construct and just what that construct is depends on the culture in question. Plenty of manga dance around this idea, either playing it for laughs or titillation and in the case of age-gap shoujo manga, it's often a sign that the heroine is perhaps more mature than her peer group. Ayako tries several times to make herself look unattractive and irresponsible to Takkun, but he sees through her every time. There is a good story here. The premise, that a young man finds an older woman attractive and wants to win her over, is not bad and certainly unique enough by virtue of legality. There are some decent jokes - I love the way that everybody (literally everybody) already knows about Takumi’s intentions towards Ayako, for example.
