Description

The “pixels” of a film aren’t in a regular matrix, so it doesn’t quite work like that. You may think of a “point” on a film as a gaussian distribution of intensity, considering that the actual silver halide crystal grains are randomly distributed and there are many of them per each point of information you want to record. The resolving power of the film depends on the average size, shape, distribution and orientation of the crystals, so it is acting more or less like a continuous medium where there are no distinct lines or points. I printed the parts near the motor with ABS and that works just fine. (the stl files are sorted by material used) PCIe slot available for customer-supplied high-speed connectivity or storage (e.g. 10GbE/40GbE NICs, Fibre Channel, RAID HBA, etc.). There, Luke, you go too far! I contend that you cannot compare the two. If you projected them side by side, people would say “hey that first one reminds me what life was like when [I was a kid]

Digitizing old reels of cine film used to be much more complicated, as you needed to find a working projector, as well as a video camera and a screen. But this ingenious device does it all in one – allowing you to convert your Super 8 and normal 8mm cine films into MP4 digital files. A pixel isn’t actually square – its your monitor that makes them so – and a single pixel isn’t really enough to represent a point of visual information. For example, to distinguish between two points, you need a third pixel in between – that’s why the actual resolving power of your digital image is always less than the number of pixels in it, and why when scaling up a picture you really don’t care about preserving the pixels. You care about preserving the information that the pixels represent.

I'm glad that I was able to help provide some motivation. I've looked over some of the new code and I'm looking forward to using it. That’s the nominal color temperature, which depends on the actual voltage you run it and other manufacturing variations. It’s only an approximation. However, if you really want to ensure those cherished memories are scanned as perfectly as possible, and you've got the time to do the necessary fine-tuning, the OpticFilm 8200i AI could be for you. Awesome project Anton. Thank you for sharing, I will definitively make use of your experience on this project to scan my dad's old home movies.

Besides, grain is only one part of “the film look”. You also need heavy motion blur, slightly wonky optics with all sorts of focusing issues and limited depth of field, and a low frame rate between 18-24 fps. It is characteristic of 16mm film production, and that is what the Hollywood film producers are after. 8mm film is a step down from this, and very rarely used in actual movies because it’s just too gritty and soft. Rewriting the code is something I really would like to do, I just cannot see that happening anytime soon due to time constrains on my end. (Maybe someone else has done it already?) Once I do I for sure will post it here. You might imagine that laying out up to a dozen 35mm film frames over the flatbed would result in fast scanning, but the V600 Photo still scans each frame individually – albeit automatically – and takes around one minute per frame at 3,200 dpi. Saving you manual work, but unfortunately not time! Scanning with Digital ICE automatic dust and scratch removal enabled only adds around 20 seconds per frame. Since some of the new parts will not be compatible with the original design, I started a new project which you can find and follow here:

Put the spool motor wheel main part onto the motor axle and glue the motor wheel front to the main. (not the axle) Flatbed scanners are traditionally thought of as a more versatile but less finessed alternative to a dedicated film scanner. However, the V600 is impressively designed to cater to film photographers. Naturally, it can scan photos and documents, but it includes holders for 35mm film, 35mm slides, and 120/220 medium format film. The key to the setup is the film advancer mechanism which takes care of both advancing the film and triggering the camera. As you can see, a servo motor rotating an axle provides the locomotion. The mechanism keys into the perforations in the film to pull it along on the down stroke and closes a switch to trigger the camera on the upstroke. Directly under the lens, the alignment jig uses lens cleaning fabric to avoid scratching the film, while perfectly positioning it over the light source. I am gonna try to use new HQ camera. Before I am gonna start, is anyone here who successfully updated this great machine with HQ camera? Shuttling from 1 to 100 frames/second (200 frames/second for 16mm) with image preview and KeyKode recognition. The best film scanners and best scanners for photos make it easy to digitize your old 35mm negatives, slides and cine film
