I’m probably rating Bruichladdich my favourite Islay distillery. I’m glad the core range is good because the indie prices are wild.

Recently I was invited to take part in a marketing campaign for Bruichladdich’s Octomore 11 series, which went well enough that Bruichladdich asked me to work on the sequel: A discussion of Bruichladdich’s Transparency Campaign “No Hidden Measures”. While that piece of work was sponsored, the following blog post was not, and although I received the review bottle for free (perks!) my review below is my own and was not influenced by (or published in) the campaign. The credibility of any reviewer is besmirched when they take industry money, but we can’t all be pure as the driven snow like Ralfy, so I leave it up to my readers to decide if my words are trustworthy or not. Bruichladdich The Classic Laddie

What this is…is an education. A lesson in perfectly malted barley with absolutely nothing to hide it, mask it or dilute it. It’s a magnificent and undoubtedly popular dram, but due to the vast array of exciting Bruichladdich projects underway at any one time, it’s still a bit underrated in my opinion. The Classic Laddie can perhaps seem a little tame in comparison to the Octomore’s and Bere Barley’s of the world but the truth is that it is perhaps the best example of the quality that is consistently produced at this excellent little distillery. You are responsible for all activities through your account. You shall not authorize any others to use or access your account.This sense of experimentation has earned Bruichladdich a reputation as something of a rebel within the scotch whisky scene. A perception done no harm by a surprising run-in with a US-based Anti-Terrorism unit… Very tasty, easy and full of pleasant notes that slowly open and unfold. It gets more honied as it opens and with some water the malty notes grow but that sweetness always stays heavy and pleasant. My favorite thing about this particular bottling though are the waxy lemon notes that slowly arise and help build the warm fruity profile that under pins everything from aroma to finish.

Never striving for absolute consistency, each batch of The Classic Laddie will, by nature, be unique and subtly different. Good example of unpeated Islay. Nothing special, feeling quite young but still easy-drinking whisky Whiskybase B.V. is the Dutch private limited liability company, having its statutory seat in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and its office at Zwaanshals 530, 3035 KS Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Whiskybase B.V. is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under no. 52072819. How has Bruichladdich embraced the change? First certified in May 2020, notable aspects of the business that helped them qualify included commitments to their workers that included: This dram needs some time in the glass and the fastidious application of water to get the most out of it, but if you find the sweet spot the complexity is really great. The top-dressing casks help tame the youthful base spirit, given time to open up both the sherry casks and red wine casks add discernible layers to the spirit. Score: 6/10Regarding mouthfeel I’d not say chewy as such no, but not light either. Which leaves us with the dull medium bodied. But that probably captures it.
