About this deal

I'm still putting plastic on the grass, I can't sweep the grass because it was ripping it up too much turf, so I'm using tweezers. I've got hundreds out so far. In late summer and early autumn, I would notice lots of daddy longlegs in my garden and I would try to stop them from mating by: During the spring window the larvae will have grown to a stage where effective control of any type is significantly reduced. As a result it is important to note that the required application rate is higher for the spring window compared to the late summer into autumn window.

Great service from a very professional and knowledgeable company. Everything I have bought nematodes, spring and autumn organic fertiliser, root success mycorrhizal fungi have worked with great success ,cannot recommend Green Gardener more highly. To encourage healthy grass apply Organic Lawn Fertiliser. Lawns get hungry, so it is important top feed them. These Organic Lawn Fertilisers are great value for money as you only need 3 applications a year unlike cheaper feeds, which have to applied every 4-6 weeks and can therefore work out more expensive in the long run. Apply our Spring / Summer Lawn Fertiliser 2 times – once in the spring and then again in the summer and then apply a final application of the Autumn Lawn Fertiliser in Sept / Oct. Garlic Spray: A bitter-tasting spray on the grass will discourage the grubs from eating the grass an they will wriggle away. Hopefully to be caught by birds or swept up off your patio. I have a professional organic garlic spray which I can apply to customers lawns, or you could try to make some yourself by soaking crushed cloves in boiling water overnight. He previously worked as a project manager and has experience in managing teams of tradespeople and landscape gardeners on both small and medium sized projects. Due to the fact that biological controls contain living organisms they have a short expiry date and should be refrigerated prior to use. While there aren’t any chemical solutions available (that don’t nuke everything in the garden), you can use nematodes and also introduce natural predators to your garden. It you want to contribute to biodiversity loss, loss of habitat, increase plastic waste in the environment, increase your flood risk and have a horrible plastic garden, by all means, go for artificial grass.

Loosen and prepare the top layer of soil. Prepare it to a fine tilthe and remove any debris for best chance of success. First, I would find an area of the lawn that looks damaged, an unusual bare or brown patch, for example. Next, I would do a classic pull test; healthy grass will have strong roots and won’t be easy to pull up. I’ve found that diseased or damaged grass will have weak roots that give way easily. IMPORTANT: Make sure the lawn does not dry out after applying nematodes and keep it well watered for at least two weeks. Seed your new lawn. You will have to wait a few weeks extra, but you can guarantee your lawn will be free from pests when it is laid and you will get the benefit of a much better lawn in the long run.I am planning on cuttings away the turf where the raised beds will go and using this turf in the bottom of the beds (with some organic-based compost on top). If there are larvae in the turf then will it affect my vegetables and should I treat the turf before I do this? It is unlikely to infest your pots, but they do eat roots of all sorts of plants. There are some other grubs though which can look similar which do like feasting on plants in pots, such as vine weevils. So vigilance on plant health is always key and investigate whenever there seems to be an unknown problem. I am sorry that you feel the need to remove all signs of nature from your outside space. We should learn to live with nature not actively try to destroy it. To aid the efficiency of the nematodes into the soil profile, apply with Aquazorb 45 Wetting Agent. Damage From Larvae: The young crane fly larvae start to feed on the roots of grass, continuing throughout Winter and into Spring.

I’ve found this method works particularly well with option 3 (the tarp method), as the birds will eat the grubs while they’re on the surface of the lawn. In spring, when the ground temperatures rise, they will reappear and start consuming the grass roots and some top growth. Insects will not survive underneath artificial grass. Nothing eats plastic grass and nothing can burrow through the hard surface it is laid on. Keep them in the fridge for application as a preventative when conditions are correct later on in the year.

Birds may try to eat the seed and it does not want to be stepped on whilst it is growing. Also remember to keep it moist, especially on hot spring days. Other steps that I’ve found can help are; reduce your watering regimen during the autumn, mow the lawn frequently, dethatch and collect grass cuttings.minutes if treating a lawn. Applications to lawns require more water to wash the nematodes through the grass thatch.
