I’m looking for some tape to cover my stained wood trim. But most tapes will take the clear coat off the wood. what to do? In a word, YES. Using Frog Tape really does make a world of difference in the ease of the painting process. Despite the under the breath grumblings heard by old school painters around the globe, frog tape has “reinvented the wheel” of painter’s tape in the best way possible. By eliminating paint bleed (well, drastically improving it at the very least), Frog Tape is easily one of the best industry innovations in the last 20 years. Frog Tape Test. Clean, happy lines… GREEN, BLUE, YELLOW, WHY ARE THERE SO MANY CHOICES? Originally Frog tape came in a bright green roll and was made to stop paint from bleeding through the edges. And finally, we have the eurocell. This is by far the cheapest tape and is in the test really to represent the basic unbranded masking tape you will find in any shop. Now we are getting down to cheaper masking tapes. This tape is a little bit more expensive than your really basic masking tapes but not by much, lets’s see how it gets on. Again it has actually done pretty well, it has peeled the paint in one area but apart from that, it hasn’t damaged the paint at all. Eurocell Is that new plaster? Looks like you haven't mist coated enough as yellow frog tape (if that's what it is) shouldn't take paint off that much at worse. This is a medium-priced masking tape, it is definitely a lot more premium than your bog-standard tape but not as expensive as some other brands. We can see in the below photo that it has actually done pretty well. There are a couple of small chips in the paint but overall it is not too bad at all. Ultratape I bought Green Frog tape given it said it wouldn’t lift the paint from surfaces, this is absolute nonsense and completely misleading. I spent time running round putting Frog tape on my ceiling in preparation to paint my walls, which I painted three months ago. The frog tape had been on for three days, upon finishing the painting I started to take off the tape and it completely devastated my ceiling. The adhesive was way to strong and started to pull off strips of paint the whole way round the room! I know have to spend lots of time sanding and repainting my ceiling, do not use this on any painted surfaces as it will lift it all when you take it off. The next tape to be put to the peel test is the kleenedge. I had never heard of this brand before, but it is quite an expensive tape, coming in at a very similar price to the two frogtapes. Two good results, the second strip is almost perfect aside from a small area in the bottom left which is more my fault than anything. I think this has edged top spot for the time being.

I would suggest waiting 24-48 hours before using the green and blue tape on newly painted surfaces. Awful tape, we did everything advised applying it to paint that was already 24hrs plus dry but it ripped it all when we peeled it off absolute rubbish now have to repaint free hand. Recommended for use on freshly painted surfaces (dry to the touch), coated wallpaper, veneer, laminate and vinyl Apply your tape to the surface. For experienced painters, unroll the tape in one long section and keep the roll flat against the wall. For less experienced painters, apply the tape in shorter sections to avoid stretching the tape. Bought the more expensive yellow "delicate surface" tape to mask an emulsioned wall prior to painting rails, frames, skirting. Did the test on a smaller area - perfect! Masked up, painted a larger area, removed as advised - it took off most of the paint underneath leaving me a big repair job. Crap!! If you can't trust the test what do you do. Clearly you can't test it all - that wouldn't be a test that'd be doing the job!! Ironically this is the first time I've ever used FrogTape and, even more annoyingly, the first time I've ever masked to paint rails, frames etc, relying instead on a good brush, care and patience. Never again!!
