A Baratza Encore can deliver good results with entry-level espresso machines for espresso. Home espresso machines with pressurized portafilters are forgiving, and obtaining a good espresso is easier. I’ve pulled decent espresso shots with my Baratza Encore using espresso machines with pressurized baskets. Yet, when trying more advanced options, like prosumer espresso machines, the taste and body of the shots are underwhelming. The Encore’s grind quality is good for its price range. Conical burrs grinders are exceptional at producing consistent grinds from very fine to very coarse as well as being durable and will remain sharp for many years. Was it worth it? Fifty quid does seem a lot for a small piece of plastic with a little metal sieve, however, it does it's job very well and if it improves my brew then it's actually a cheaper upgrade than just about anything else. Beyond a great coffee-making experience, the Encore lets you explore new coffee flavours. With 40 individual grind settings, you can find the perfect grind size for all brewing methods. The hopper can hold 8 ounces of whole beans, and the clear grounds bin has a fill line to indicate how much to grind. We intentionally designed the Encore to fit nicely under most kitchen cabinets without sacrificing power or quality and to bring value to your daily grind. The Virtuoso’s throughput rate is about twice as fast as the Encore’s. The Virtuoso+ grinds at 1.5–2.4 grams per second compared to the Encore at 0.8–1.1 grams per second. The difference is largely due to burr geometry as the models share the same motor. The Virtuoso’s M2 burr grinds much faster than the Encore’s M3 burr.
