Description

Join three friends—Bear, Owl, and Fox—as they play Hide-and-Seek at a playground in the woods. Using the slide, swings, and trees, R. D. Ornot deftly weaves the prepositions into their game. The position words fit the story naturally, without seeming forced. A climbing wall, a bench, a tunnel, and a bridge provide more hiding places for their game. Overall this worked for me, and I had a good time reading it, despite its flaws. I'd definitely read another horror novel from this author in the future!

Rebus enlists Detective Sergeant Brian Holmes -- "Someone who didn't know Rebus well enough to complain about being kept in the dark, about being used as a shunting engine" -- to help him out, and though there is some friction between the two they make a decent team. Could I have cared more for the characters? Perhaps. But it wasn’t a chore for me to get to the end, and this end had a good twist. The short chapters may put off others but this actually made me want to read on. Maybe I am biased on this point because short chapters are a trait of mine as writer. Hey, if it’s good enough for the multi-million selling Patterson...Shortly after Joanna, her husband and three children move into a new house in a mature, middle class estate in Dublin, Joanna discovers that the house was the former home of Lily Murphy. Lily disappeared when she was three years old during a neighbourhood game of Hide and Seek and was never found.

It’s 1985 and the game of Hide and Seek is over. But where is 3 year old Lily Murphy? Despite an extensive search the little girl is never seen again. I never saw the ending coming and her ability to make me as a parent think about what it would be like to lose my child was truly terrifying. Any parent will feel their stomach drop when the story unfolds before their eyes!Without giving much away: I can absolutely say this was wild, jaw dropping, intense ride! My only concern is there are too many characters and some of them are truly annoying and easy to forget. I wish there were less competitors. A children’s game of hide and seek ends but little Lily Murphy hasn't been found. Her parents and neighbours search the woods and tell themselves that the worst hasn't happened. But Lily’s whereabouts remain a mystery.
