About this deal

Unpretentious and comfortable. It's beautifully smooth, easy on the palate with a warming gentle finish. Honestly, it’s pretty good. Jim Beam isn’t my first choice for sipping something neat but this might actually be okay. It’s smooth, tasty, and has a good weight on the tongue for being about 86 proof (43% ABV). Both the regular white label and the extra aged are better bourbons.

Whiskey Review: Jim Beam Double Oak - The Whiskey Wash

Notably, there’s a substantial difference in price between them with the Jim Beam being more affordable. However, the Woodford Reserve bourbon reigns supreme when it comes to sheer indulgence. On the palate, the first sip brings warmth and prominent smoke, accompanied by a touch of oak char. Let’s start with Jim Beam’s offering. Jim Beam Double Oak bourbon is a more budget-friendly option than the Woodford Reserve Double Oak. This bourbon begins its journey as the standard Jim Beam White Label. It has been aged for 8 years instead of 4, resulting in a smoother and more enjoyable drinking experience. It is first aged in charred American white oak barrels then we pour it into another freshly charred barrel to mature for a second time. The added interaction with the oak wood results in a liquid intense in flavor, smooth in taste.” As bourbon tradition mandates, it undergoes a four-year ageing process in brand-new, charred American oak barrels. The extended maturation period in these fresh charred barrels imparts a heightened spiced oakiness and caramel sweetness to the liquid. This experience was a precursor to my venture into the liquor shop business, where I had the privilege of curating an extensive collection of liquors, granting me access to thousands of unique bottles from across the globe. Jim Beam is globally recognized as a trusted whiskey producer with centuries-old history. While the traditional white label is often overlooked, the Double Oak is also a great everyday whiskey but definitely a step above your standard pouring bourbon. You have probably seen the adverts for this featuring Mila Kunis which if you are a bloke and into women may have influenced your opinion on this already. If you aren’t then you might be indifferent towards it and just wondering if the juice is any good!

Honey, toasted oak and fruity spices. Vanilla, caramel with hints of dark chocolate cherries. Rich and smooth. Adding a few drops of water smoothes it out even more and brings a few more sweet notes to the front.

Maple, oak, some burnt toffee, pecans corn and more oak. It’s good and definitely a step up form the regular white label Jim Beam. This bourbon begins life much like the classic Woodford Reserve but takes a unique turn during ageing. After its initial maturation, it undergoes a secondary ageing process in brand-new barrels, which are heavily toasted and lightly charred. The finish is of decent length, with a slight bite and an earthy/ashy note, leaving behind a lingering taste of chocolate, corn, and oak char. Additionally, this is a great pouring bottle because of its firm, steady grip, which is important for bartenders. On top of that, the Double Oak is great value for money. Closing Thoughts So is it intense in flavor, smooth in taste? And more importantly is it any good?
