Description

Again he paused for thought before adding, 'That way you enjoy your work, which is important, because then you make a good job of it. And that's how it ought to be.' Gradually, the sinister influence of the Men in Grey affects the whole city: life becomes sterile, devoid of all things considered time-wasting, like social activities, recreation, art, imagination, or sleeping. Buildings and clothing are made exactly the same for everyone, and the rhythms of life become hectic. In reality, the more time people save, the less they have; the time they save is actually lost to them. Instead, it is consumed by the Men in Grey in the form of cigars made from the dried petals of the hour-lilies that represent time. Without these cigars the Men in Grey cannot exist. He tried to convince her that she will damage her friends because the only important thing in life is to acquire more that the others and that friendship and love will come with time. As a replacement for her friends, he offered her a doll Babygirl. Momo's adventure takes her from the depths of her heart, which her own time flows from in the form of lovely hour-lilies, to the lair of the Men in Grey themselves, where the time that people believe they are saving is hoarded. After Master Hora stops time, but gives Momo one hour-lily to carry with her, she has exactly one hour to defeat the Men in Grey in a frozen world where only they and she are still moving.

They always had cigarettes because they kept them alive. They spent most of their time in their shelter. After he had heard that the Men in Grey had Momo and that they'll let her go if he saves 100 thousand hours Beppo believed them. When the time started again he and Momo were together and happy together. With time the theatre became an it-place where everyone came to spend some time with the unusual girl. Momo knew how to listen to others and after talking to her, people would have a clear look at their situations. Even the people who were a bit uneducated would have bright ideas after talking to her. She was the middleman for people who were arguing. Just when she is about to rush out, already wearing her coat, some of her mentor students come in. There has been a conflict. They want to tell her their different versions. The teacher sighs, sacrifices her valuable time out of a reluctant sense of duty, and lets go of the next underground, quite unwillingly.

Momo, Michael Ende - Book Summary Momo, Michael Ende - Book Summary

Because of that Hora decided to stop the time to give Momo a chance to discover where the agents were keeping the time they had stolen. When the time stopped the agents rushed to Hora's house but when they realized the time has stopped they went to their shelter and started looking for cigarettes. There was another long silence. At last he went on, 'And all at once, before you know it, you find you've swept the whole street clean, bit by bit. What's more, you aren't out of breath.' He nodded to himself. 'That's important, too,' he concluded.” And that has not happened in many years, mum, not since I read Good Night, Mr. Tom. Maybe you should read it with your class?"In the end, the author gives us a dream about a better future and breaks the darkness which can be noticed when Momo freed the time that was taken away from people. Sceneries never saw before occurred in the city; the children played and the drivers looked at them with a smile on their face. The plot is set in a country in the south and, since it is a fairytale, the time is unspecified. The novel is referred to in each episode of the Japanese TV series A Girl of 35, starring Ko Shibasaki and Kentaro Sakaguchi (2020). The lead character wakes up after 25 years in a coma and feels her time has been stolen. She uses the Momo characters to learn how to grow up and come to terms with the tragic consequences her accident had for her whole family. But something made him glance up from his screen, and he saw to his surprise that the visitor was no longer an old man. In fact, he almost looked like a child. His first book was a success. It was a children's novel "Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver" and it brought him an award for the best children's book in 1961. The book "Momo" was also a success and it was written in 1973 and he acquired world fame with "NeverEnding Story" in 1979.

Momo by Michael Ende | Goodreads
