About this deal

Halogen bulbs claim to last 2000hrs (2 years average), but it’s more like 1000. Some GU10 LEDs claim 24,000hrs, but that’s an even bigger lie! However, the EU implemented a law in 2014 – LEDs now must last at least 6000hrs, so they last 3x longer than halogens, minimum (more like 6x longer or more)! Note 1:- MR16 means multifaceted reflector 16/8th inch across, so GU10 tungsten are MR16 lamps, most LED lamps are not MR16 as they don't have the reflector. We should call them MR16 compatible. Bathroom lights are MR16 - can I just replace MR16 bulbs for the ones you've linked to without changing the transformer again? If so, is there a version of those bulb that I can use that look more like the tranditional MR16/GU10 shape - so they fit the existing light fittings? As you can hopefully see in the image above, I have a single transformer, which has the following specifications: Electronic Transformer for LV-Halogen Lamps There are a number of problems, but it is possible non will affect you, so I will try and list them.

So I'll just wire in brown to live and blue to neutral and wire out the two wires to the lights on using the first two output terminals. Electronic 12VAC halogen transformers can vary significantly in design and consequently in how they respond (or do not respond) to different loads. Tridonic Atco speedy. Their specified load requirements were 0.1-0.3 A, 20-60 W, 20-60W and 0.1-0.3 A, respectively. An Atco TM50-2 wire wound transformer was used for comparison. The primary winding for each I am building a wall cabinet with downlights in the shelves, for which I would like to use MR16 LEDs. However, my first attempt was obviously deficient, since two of the LEDs blew. I'd appreciate some help to figure out a) what went wrong, and b) what I need to install them properly.Replacing your existing 12VAC transformers in addition to your downlights can be costly and inconvenient, making it important that replacement LED downlights work well The LEDs are too far from the transformer, resulting in voltage drop (the maximum distance is about 1.5-2m). GU, which stands for “general use”, refers to the base, or fitting, of the bulb. The number after GU refers to the spacing between the pins. GU10 has 10 mm spacing, while GU5.3 has 5.3 mm spacing.

MR16 and GU10 spotlights are among the most popular LED spotlights around. The main differences between the two is that MR16s have a different base (fitting) which consists of two narrow pins. MR16s also run on just 12 volts, while GU10 spotlights have more flexibility and can run at 240 volts (which is more common in households). This means MR16s need a different transformer to convert the main supply to the required 12 volts. transformers output a high frequency switching signal ranging from approximately 37 kHz to 79 kHz, enveloped If you’re switching to LED MR16s from halogen MR16s, then LED drivers are pretty important. They’re used to power low voltage (12v) LED bulbs and strip lighting, providing a constant current to make sure they work properly. They’re mainly used for strip lighting, and MR16, MR11 and G4 spotlight bulbs. In some cases your existing (normal) 12v transformer will work. However, this can reduce the lifespan of the bulb. Beam angle is measured in degrees. A wider beam angle covers more space with light. Your choice of beam angle, like colour variant, is completely down to you. As a guide, we’d advise using wider beam angles in living spaces where many people are gathered round. Narrow beam angles, on the other hand, are often used for decorative purposes or areas where you need focus.

LED drivers' are electronic DC power regulators designed specifically for DC LED lighting. They are not suitable for 12VAC (halogen or LED retrofit) lighting. These two superheroes of lighting are compact and great at directing light exactly where you need it. But what is the difference between MR16 and GU10 bulbs? A term used to compare LED light bulbs with their incandescent alternatives. An LED light bulb with an equivalent wattage of 35W is a direct replacement for a 35W incandescent light bulb. This is different from a light bulb’s stated wattage ( see below). Some G5.3 bulbs are DC and some are AC and some it does not matter, most sold on high street it does not matter, but some are marked 50 Hz, so fitting a DC power supply often called a driver, is not always best option.

to a Philips retrofit LED light. It oscillates about 0V, regularly switching polarity with a measured output of 11.9VAC. The white voltage signal is that supplied by a LED driver by Brightgreen Superdrug adds new 'VIP Rewards' offers to its existing loyalty scheme – here's what you need to know If you've got a Marcus easy-access savings account or cash ISA, you can easily boost your interest rate to 4.75% – here's how.

Circle with X in represents the light. It doesn't matter which way round the 12V lighting circuit goes, and it would appear that it supports up to 4 lights. The volt-ampere (VA) rating is the maximum load (in watts) that a transformer can safely carry. For example, a 40VA transformer can handle up to 40-watts of electrical equipment, while a 10-60VA one can carry between 10 and 60 watts worth. Installing low voltage LED light bulbs on a transformer designed for halogen lighting requires you to find the equivalent wattage ( see above) for the LED bulbs, so as not to overload the transformer. Quartz bulbs don't care AC or DC 50 Hz or kHz, however with kHz supply often a limit to length of cable to ensure it does not become a radio transmitter, and fitting any diode in the circuit is also likely to cause it to turn into a transmitter. MR, which stands for “multifaceted refractor”, refers to the shape and design of the top part of the bulb. The number after MR refers to the diameter of the bulb in terms of eighths of an inch — the 16, in this case, means that the bulb is 16/8 inches (or 2 inches) in diameter. MR16 and GU10 bulbs are both technically MR16 bulbs. One has a GU10 type base and the other has a GU5.3 type base. The bulb with a GU5.3 base has simply become known as an “MR16 bulb.” The bulb with a GU10 base is commonly referred to as exactly that: “a GU10”. Here, we’ll refer to the two bulbs as MR16 and GU10.
