About this deal

Camera software is a big element of the Google Pixel 6 Pro. Within the standard camera app you’ll find Night Sigh, Portrait, Panorama, Camera (the standard mode), and Video modes, plus some interesting additional options such as Motion, Photo Sphere and Lens. The Pixel 6 Pro’s battery life is passable – it’ll see you through a full day of typical use, but not much more. It comes with fast-charging and wireless charging technology, but neither of these are particularly impressive either.

Benchmarking isn’t necessarily reflective of real-world use though, and we found the phone was capable of running all the apps and games we wanted it to. The whole experience was smooth, and it always felt like the phone had enough grunt behind it. If you’re pushing your phone harder, for example using GPS features, or shooting lots of video, you may find you need to top it up before the end of the day. There’s glass at the front and rear, which is quite a departure from the recent plastic-bodied Pixel phones, and both panels are constructed from Corning’s toughest phone glass yet: Gorilla Glass Victus. There’s also IP68 dust and water resistance, as well as an optical under-screen fingerprint reader in a change from the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor of recent Pixels. We like the design of the Google Pixel 6 Pro, and you’ll get a good idea of whether or not you’re going to like it from the photos you can see above alone. The Pixel 6 Pro takes over two hours to charge and hits 50% in 35 minutes using a 30W USB-C adaptor (not included). Google Pixel 6 Pro – Unlocked Android 5G Smartphone with 50

Then again, it's worth noting that the Pixel 7 Pro will probably be out in October, so this won't be the latest Pixel flagship for long. The Pixel 6 Pro is the best phone Google has ever made. Whether that will be enough for it to be a hit remains to be seen. Google has equipped the Pixel 6 with a new chip called Tensor, a reference to the company's machine learning hardware in its data centers. At the heart of Tensor is the Tensor Processor Unit (TPU), which will handle any and all AI tasks that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro perform. That means that other resources could be freed for other tasks, potentially leading to better performance and battery life.

In our lab tests, the Pixel 6 turned in an average brightness reading of 497 nits with adaptive brightness turned off and 843 nits with the setting turned on. The Pixel 6 Pro turned in a similar 495.3 nits and 842 nits, respectively. The thinking behind Tensor is that a processor designed and built by Google itself can be better optimized to work with the company’s phone hardware and software for a better all-round experience - and that good news is that the chip is plenty powerful, if not the most powerful on the market.

Google Pixel 6 Pro review: a top-tier Android handset - TechRadar

The Pixel 6 Pro is the first phone from the company to run on Google’s own silicon rather than Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets. The chipset here is called Google Tensor. That Motion mode is the new element here, and that’s designed for taking long exposure shots such as creatively blurred images of moving subjects. We’ve not yet tested this much, but it’s an interesting addition that you’ll find useful in some specific scenarios. The most important thing to note is that the Pixel 6 is the very first handset to be powered by Google’s in-house Tensor chipset. Ditching Qualcomm and avoiding Exynos and Kirin, Tensor promises a handful of performance and efficiency improvements over last year’s mid-range Snapdragon 765G, and it represents a bold new future for Google. The Google Pixel 6 represents quite a departure from recent Pixel phone launches. Not only is it unashamedly premium in its design, but it costs the same amount as the Pixel 5 did at launch, is significantly faster and comes with improved cameras and a revamped UI.While the Pixel 6 Pro isn’t the best smartphone money can buy right now, it comes pretty close. Google has stepped up its smartphone game lately, and this next-gen Android headliner is its crowning achievement. Video quality is a step up from previous Pixels, but is still not nearly as good as Google’s still photography, and lags behind Apple and Samsung. We found it to be one of the sharpest-looking displays we’ve seen on a smartphone in 2021. Its 512 pixels per inch is a rarity on smartphones with QHD displays, and we’ve only seen it beaten by handsets like the Sony Xperia 1 IV with its 4K screen. Call quality and 5G reception was good, as was Bluetooth performance to several sets of headphones. On the bottom edge of the handset is the USB-C port, flanked on either side by the speakers. On the right-hand edge of the phone are the power button and the volume buttons.
