I wouldn’t recommend it because I was a huge fan of Jacqueline Wilson and have read ALL of them and this one was definitely the worst and now I don’t read her as much anymore. Other people might like it but it doesn’t appeal to me. Beth her youngest sister loves dolls and her father meets Clover Moon there and takes her on as Beth's and the other children's nursery maid. They also have Hetty for Christmas as Sarah Smith comes to Christmas dinner with them too.

Rose Rivers is the main character of the book of the same name. She is the fraternal twin of Rupert. She lives as the eldest daughter of a wealthy Victorian family. Throughout the book Rose expresses her dislike of her life feeling lonely and unwanted several times throughout the novel. She struggles to make friends, especially with those of a similar social standing, eventually she befriends Clover moon who works for her family as a nursery maid. The plot wasn’t great, it was just based on Rose and how she loved Paris. It wasn’t the type that made you go “ooh” or “aah” just “oh”. Let’s focus on before that. All her siblings are really well written and interesting and Rupert was really cool! I also loved the staff and the way that she managed to get Clover Moon and Hetty Feather in because they are some of my favourite characters! I love their fiery spirits. Rose is nice but she’s a bit of an annoying character and being in her head wasn’t as fun as Clover’s but I still liked it! Her parents were also cool and the storyline had a good flow and I liked it. Rupert and Pamela were weird but it didn’t bother me because she wasn’t a massive character. But I hate her relationship with Mr Walker or ‘Paris’ because I find it creepy and their interaction is defiantly not my favourite. They weren’t that bad and I could look past it. I found Rose quite interesting because she’s supposed to be a lady but she’s quite ambitious anyway. I didn’t not like any characters. Will Paris help Rose finally achieve her dreams? And will she be able to help Clover find her own dream? Read more Details

I loved this book as it had so many plot twists. I liked the way it teaches how each class in the Victorian times had to cope with life. Girls had a tough time having to stay at home and entertain themselves, and the poorer classes had to survive on very little food and small pay from their jobs. The rich had very easy lives and with their heritage, they did not need to work. This book has also showed me how over the many years how education has changed for girls. It also opened my eyes to the fact that if children that were troubled now were treated like Beth, the carer would be sent to court. This shows how the law has changed for child cruelty and girls' rights. I think that this book is a great book for children aged 9+ so that they understand the deeper meaning to this book. I hope that there is a sequel to this book as it ended on an exciting cliff hanger. I thought this would be a good time for you to start sketching seriously, sweetheart. I know you’ve been feeling rather mopey since Rupert left for school,’ said Papa. Rose is the privileged eldest daughter of the artist who sketched Clover in Clover Moon. Rose is jealous that her twin brother, Rupert, has gone away to school. Her younger siblings aren’t much fun and she feels trapped between childhood and adulthood. She wonders why Rupert is allowed to grow up, but her mother still expects her to be a child.

Young Quills reviews

Mama hadn’t minded Papa’s wild ways when, as a youth, he travelled up to Scotland to paint the mountains and lochs, paying his way by doing portraits of aristocratic lairds or rich industrialists. He painted Grandpapa, and then he painted Mama, who was his only child, a young girl of seventeen. And during those sittings they fell passionately in love. Why did Rose immediately like Clover? Speaking of, why do all of the new narrators in a series immediately like the old narrators? I understand that squishes (platonic attraction) are things, but I'd like to see them... you know, not have one. For once. For pity’s sake, Edward, I wish you’d stop doing these sordid urban sketches. Who on earth wants to see pallid drawings of street children? I wish you’d never agreed to do the illustrations for Sarah Smith’s wretched little books. I know she does charity work for destitute girls, but I really don’t see why you have to be involved. Why don’t you do proper oil paintings again?’ When I’d finished sketching, Papa wanted to see my portrait, but I wouldn’t let him. I didn’t want him to see what a failure I was. He is always hopeful that one of us will show artistic talent. He does his best to be encouraging. He praises Algie’s scribbles even when they’re in inappropriate places like the whitewashed nursery cupboards or the hall skirting board.
