About this deal

Fuji lenses are known for their colors, but even good things get old after a while so I like the different look this lens provides. You may find my lack of being able to nail the range of focus somewhat off putting but, like I said, I'm still playing with it. However, the decsriptions relate the performance to the theoretical maximum for the particular model.

I'm surprised one of the Chinese companies hasn't come up with a simple reverse Galilean, hotshoe mounted finder in popular focal lengths. Armed with the new lens and the 26MP Fujifilm X-S10 body, we were ready for the rain, but in the event, the sun shone. There is no OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) but there is in-body stabilisation in several Fuji bodies. I got this lens to practice manual focusing to see if I will ever invest in more expensive MF lens like Rokinons or even Loxia. To be able to shoot pictures with fully manual lens, you need to configure your Fuji camera to “shoot without lens” in the menu. So for me - unless the 8cm gain in Dof with a headshot is a dealbreaker - my advice is get out your old film camera kit and have a go with the old technology before you pay up for a new lens ------- unless the vignetting, field edge distortion and "toy camera" look is what you want - but then, just add an online filter in post-processing and have a much more controlled version of the same. The only digital cameras they work well on are the Leica Ms, because of their special sensors, and they are rather expensive! If you want something wider than a FF 50mm and close to the theoretical human field of view, it's definitely worth a try. I've found that my own camera bag now contains more Samyang glass than Sony, and I find that the results generally meet my expectations as an Alpha 7R III user. The packaging reflects the boutique feel, with an upmarket Western design not unlike Fuji's own silky black boxes. So, in short, I really don't know what to tell you except that using a lens with the proper electronic connections to the camera should be a much easier way to capture images.

I’ve bought two of them (one for Fuji and another for micro43), it’s been good, I even like the rendering at wider apertures better than the Fujinon 23mm f/2 (even if with worse extreme corners, more vignetting, which may be the culprit of the slight worse light transmission of this lens when wide open).
