However, even though around 85 years have passed for Murph and the people of Earth since Cooper left on the Endurance, it's only seemed like a few months for him. This is Nolan at his highest-functioning but also his least accessible; a film that eschews conflict for exploration, action for meditation and reflection. Indeed across the entire near-three hour runtime there are only a couple of shots that look even vaguely flawed - during the baseball game when the dust storm lands there's a slightly pastel tone which looks unnatural, and when they hit the ice planet the long shots of the ship make it look just the tiniest bit fake, like a green-screen superimposed effect. Inside Interstellar offers up some 14 smaller Featurettes: Plotting the Interstellar Journey, Life on Cooper's Farm, The Dust, TARS and CASE, The Cosmic Sounds of Interstellar, The Spacesuits, The Endurance, Shooting in Iceland: Miller's Planet / Mann's Planet, The Ranger and the Lander, Miniatures in Space, The Simulation of Zero-G, Celestial Landmarks, Across all Dimensions and Time, and Final Thoughts.Although the library where "they" bring Cooper seems to go on forever, every part of this room serves as a window into the exact same place: his daughter Murph's childhood bedroom. If Gravity took us into the unforgiving abyss of space, and Sunshine took us towards the unrelenting blast of the sun, Interstellar takes us beyond both, to wormholes and space anomalies, ice planets and water planets and other dimensions. Once Cooper passes along the quantum data, the tesseract (aka the library) begins to collapse, having served its purpose. Astrophysics is the vehicle not the destination, however, and Interstellar’s gravitational centre is far more down to Earth.So even though the meeting between Murph and Coop at the end of the film is the first time they'd seen each other in decades, it would make sense that she'd already know about everything he experienced on his mission — including jettisoning himself into the black hole so Brand could make it to Edmunds' planet. Interstellar makes a tremendous Ultra HD Blu-ray bow as part of the Nolan selection, vying with Dunkirk for the top spot in terms of video presentation and delivering reference material for both video and audio, and a superior selection of extra features. Although he expects to eventually get crushed by Gargantua's gravity, Cooper is miraculously spared once his shuttle is ripped apart. Whilst the results are not universally astounding across all seven films, Interstellar is undoubtedly stellar, trumping its already stunning Blu-ray presentation. The mix revels in its contrasts, with incredible dynamic range that flexes between moments of silent majesty and bombastic organ chords that feature rumbling low tones you can almost feel.

Cooper takes his daughter's advice and steals a ship, intending to head back through the wormhole and join Brand on Edmunds' planet. It's these future humans who used gravity to create the wormhole that allowed NASA to send scientists to explore the 12 planets in the first place. Gargantua warps space-time; its gravitational strength bends Miller’s planet (which, according to Kip Thorne, is as near to Gargantua as it can get without falling in), stretching and squeezing it toward and away from the black hole.Amelia Brand (Anne Hathaway) reminds the audience of the scientific principle behind this as she explains why the presence of a black hole has prevented certain worlds near it from being habitable for humans.

The gravitational anomalies observed by Coop, Murph and Professor Brand lead to a complete reevaluation of the scientific understanding of gravity. Massive dust storms are tearing up the planet, crops are failing, and soon, humanity will cease to exist. Paranoid that the Endurance crew won't go along with his plan once they learn what he's done, Mann attempts to kill Cooper so he can make his getaway.
