About this deal

Orangeboy is a hard-edged look at London’s teenage gang culture from the inside, as Marlon gets dragged deeper and deeper into a world he’d once sworn to have no part in. Marlon’s out of choices – can he become the person he never wanted to be, to protect everyone he loves? That being said, it was an okay read and I understand why it won the Waterstones Children's Book Prize 2017 for Older Fiction. But everything changes when Marlon's first date with the beautiful Sonya ends in tragedy; he becomes a hunted man and he has no idea why. I can see why everyone says this book is incredible, that it should be read in schools because it truly was amazing.

I still saw her. Her hair was thick and blonde, and a curl

In the Urban Dictionary, Orange Boy is an insult used to offend someone who goes against a cause they used to stand by - the story of Milo as he ventures away from the boy he used to be to the man he must become to survive is perilous, and full of pitfalls that tiptoe along the line of morality. OrangeBoy Inc. Savannah — OrangeBoy Inc.

Orangeboy opens with sixteen-year-old Marlon Sunday from Hackney having just taken his first ever quarter tab of Ecstasy. Marlon promised his mother that he would have nothing to do with drugs, but when he falls under Sonya’s spell, keeping that promise suddenly becomes a lot more difficult.

That coupled with the drama, suspense and tackling of powerful issues such as drugs, gang warfare and the importance of family really aided in keeping this title up there in my list of worthwhile reads. I was gripped by Orangeboy from start to finish, and spent much of the latter stages of the book trying to work out how the hell Marlon was going to come out of the story in one piece. Patrice is going to be a new star in contemporary YA, and I can't wait to get this exceptional book into the hands of readers. Night Mayor Franklefink has vanished from the Transylvanian Express - and it's up to you to solve the case! But when Sonya befriends him unexpectedly, pushes pills into his fingers and invites him to the local fair, Marlon doesn't think twice before lying to his Mum and ditching his revision to be with the beautiful Sonya. With a breezy, humorous, and engaging writing style that cuts through the clutter and gets straight to the point, you can’t help but keep turning the page to find out what happens next. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book because it gave me insight into a life that I've never lived; as a white woman living outside of London I've never experienced unfair treatment and suspicion directed at me by the police in the same way that Marlon, a black young man, does.
