About this deal

He is obsessed by her death, baffled by the reasons why the police have dropped the case and suspicious of her new boyfriend Mark. An intelligent, satisfying police procedural that gives readers a true who-dunit mystery with many twists and turns and a satisfying ending all the way to the last page.

Not only are his mysteries always well plotted but Banks, as a lover of music, was never shy of sharing his choices with the reader. He was regularly nominated for and frequently won awards in Canada, the US, France, the UK and Sweden. Characters are luminous conduits through which the narrative unfurls, bursting forth vividly under Robinson’s hand.In addition to that structural detail, the novel also jumps back and forth from modern day (in this case, the year 2019) and a crime that took place back in November,1980. Since this is a Peter Robinson novel, readers should also be aware of the prerequisite plot twists that may veer this story into unpredictable directions.

One thing I will most miss from these DCI Banks novels is his eclectic taste in music, which is once again on display in this novel. Reading this novel is bittersweet, like the affectionate and protracted goodbye of a very dear friend.

In each Banks novel Robinson explored the character of the policeman a little more, but always keeping him grounded in his sense of decency and justice.

It mentions the Yorkshire Ripper, Archaeology, politics, corruption assumed idenities, familial dna to solve who the bones are from. One of his tutors was the prolific and highly esteemed American author Joyce Carol Oates, who taught him, among other things, to take his writing seriously.

After the turbulence of the past few years, which culminated in the events of Not Dark Yet , Banks welcomes an outwardly straightforward investigation. Peter Robinson's DCI Banks series was made into a major ITV1 drama starring Stephen Tompkinson (Wild at Heart, Ballykissangel) as Inspector Banks, and Andrea Lowe (The Bill, Murphy's Law) as DI Annie Cabbot. The narrator for one section is Nick Hartley, a student turned journalist whose girlfriend, Alice Poole has been murdered in 1980.
