I appreciated that we actually got to see them perform those roles in their work environments and to meet a few of the people they work with. It’s more than a little convenient that Tiffy’s friends Mo and Gerty are a counselor and a criminal justice lawyer. Though initially embarrassed and panicky, they soon realise that the friendship that began on paper has the potential to develop into something more. At Bother, Tiffany is tasked with doing edgy content, as it’s her job, and also the site is losing money and needs to get more hits.

Tiffy and Leon complement each other well; it’s easy to envision a happy future for them, even if the epilogue was a touch too sweet. It is Emily in Paris-ish, yet it’s set in the UK, so it’s more self-deprecating and, instead of haughty glamour, it has a soft heart and soppy centre.

Leon’s girlfriend, Kay, is unhappy about the flats-sharing arrangement but agrees that she can’t continue to loan Leon money to pay the lawyer who’s working on his brother’s appeal. Tiffy Moore needs to move out of her cheating ex-boyfriend’s apartment, but can’t afford the rent in London. We also see Tiffy’s work at a publishing house that puts out DIY books, the jokes she shares with Rachel, her a co-worker and friend, and the way she gets roped into modeling crochet sweaters for an author of books on crocheting. This series is never trying to cram, and it’s never trying to rush to a cliffhanger set-piece at the half-hour mark, and you actually get to know the supporting cast as characters, rather than well-timed one-liners who help the leads figure themselves out. Tiffy is quirky and accepting; for example, she’s tall but open to dating someone shorter (Leon is tall too, though) and nice to the crochet lady.I'm currently TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus Whattowatch. First, the two actors have to have irresistible, smile-on-your-face-to-watch-it chemistry (you need to want them to fall in love). Some we receive from the authors, some we receive from the publisher, and some we receive through a third party service like Net Galley. The structure and tone of this novel and the burgeoning relationship of Tiffy and Leon has echoes of Emma and Dexter in David Nicholl’s One Day.

They communicate via post it note while they navigate their unusual agreement, their relationships, and lives.Because of that – because the romcom is, at its core, the same story told over and over again – it’s actually quite difficult to get it right. The set up was the best part; when Tiffy and Leon finally met it was a bit of a let down because their in-person interactions couldn’t possibly live up to the charming notes that they left for each other.
