Description

The Abuja City Gate is a national monument. Built by the regime of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd.) to commemorate the relocation of the seat of power from Lagos to Abuja in 1991, the ACG’s significance lies not only in being a pavilion but also as the major ceremonial entrance as well as a welcoming sign to all visitors to the new capital city. The then government boldly inscribed ‘YOU ARE WELCOME’ below the nation’s coat of arms hung in between the two pillars holding the map of the Federal Capital Territory. In later years, much improvement has been done on the pavilion especially the roads around the monument. And around the gate, more monuments are springing up. Even the private sector is not left out in the efforts to develop the entrance area to Abuja. Among such interesting places people may visit near the gate are the multi-million naira Wonderland Amusement Park, Abuja National Stadium and BeeLoved Frangrances Limited.

How to make a broom". Ogden Publications, Inc. Archived from the original on 2013-03-14 . Retrieved 2010-03-15. In baseball and basketball, when the home team is close to accomplishing a sweep (having won the first two games of a three-game series or first three games of a four-game series), some fans will bring brooms to the ballpark and brandish them as a way of taunting the visiting team (examples: Arkansas vs. LSU, 2011; Red Sox vs. Yankees, May 13–15, 2011 and June 7–9, 2011).The Broom became a symbol of Change; a new beginning, a new Nigeria where everyone who donned the broom was automatically part of the progressives; the fighters, the avant-garde, the people who risked their lives to rid Nigeria of its filth. Most Nigerians think of brooms differently today. In 2015, the All Progressives Congress (APC) crafted a new significance for brooms in the minds of Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora. Man, Myth and Magic: An Illustrated Encyclopedia of the Supernatural. 1970, edited by Richard Cavendish. The word "broom" derives from the name of certain thorny shrubs ( Genista and others) used for sweeping. [1] The name of the shrubs began to be used for the household implement in Late Middle English and gradually replaced the earlier besom during the Early Modern English period. The song Buy Broom Buzzems (by William Purvis 1752–1832) still refers to the "broom besom" as one type of besom (i.e. "a besom made from broom").

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in. Nigeria today is at a critical juncture, and the people, led by the youths brutalized by bad leadership, are awake and leading the movement to transform Nigerian politics,” Mr. Obi said in a speech at Chatham House, a think tank in London, last month.

The Métis people of Canada have a broom dancing tradition. There are broom dancing exhibitions where people show off their broom dancing skills. The lively broom dance involves fast footwork and jumping. [8] Shorter Oxford English dictionary, 6th ed. United Kingdom: Oxford University Press. 2007. p.3804. ISBN 978-0199206872. It’s not that Mr. Obi, who is 61, is particularly youthful himself, though he is the youngest major presidential candidate by a decade. But in a country where young people have been pushed to the periphery by unemployment, corruption, and police brutality, Mr. Obi’s promises of clean governance and an outsider’s perspective have caught the imagination of a generation. His supporters call themselves his “Obidients.” A distinction is made between a "hard broom" and a "soft broom" and a spectrum in between. Soft brooms are used in some cultures chiefly for sweeping walls of cobwebs and spiders, like a " feather duster", while hard brooms are for rougher tasks like sweeping dirt off sidewalks or concrete floors, or even smoothing and texturing wet concrete. The majority of brooms are somewhere in between, suitable for sweeping the floors of homes and businesses, soft enough to be flexible and to move even light dust, but stiff enough to achieve a firm sweeping action.
