After Orpheus reads Dustfinger into Inkheart but leaves Farid and the martens behind, Farid turns to Meggie to ask if she can reunite them. Also a major film from the makers of The Lord of the Rings, starring Andy Serkis, Paul Bettany and Brendan Fraser - now on Netflix!

After reuniting with Meggie, Fenoglio asks her to read Cosimo the Fair back into the story, since he died when he did not plan for him to. Orpheus, however, claims that he'll read Dustfinger back to life later, but now he wants to check out the Inkworld. The Adderhead releases Mo and all the prisoners in the dungeon, but then sends his men and Basta after them to kill them all. Fenoglio believes that with his words and Meggie's voice, they can finally give the story the happy ending that Fenoglio originally intended for it. Roxanne realizes what Dustfinger plans to do and runs to him, she is too late however and watches the White Women take away Dustfinger, thus Farid is the Gwin that becomes the death of him in Fenoglio's original story.

Along with the Black Prince, de facto leader of the Motley Folk, they launch a successful rescue mission, but Mo is unable to escape because of his fatal wound and Resa stays behind with him.

I'm willing to admit that a lot of that might have been due to the fact that I was listening to it on Audio. Although a year has passed, not a day goes by without Meggie thinking of the extraordinary events of Inkheart , and the story whose characters strode out of the pages, and changed her life for ever. When he finds a crooked storyteller named Orpheus, Orpheus obliges, but doesn't send his apprentice Farid back into the book as they arranged; he then steals the book from the boy and hands it over to Basta, who still desires revenge for the death of his master, Capricorn.

But this time, Meggie wants to know how to read herself as well as Farid into Inkheart, despite the fact that reading oneself into a story was previously thought impossible. She is immediately suspicious of Farid, believing him to be Dustfinger’s son by a woman of our world. It doesn't ramble as badly, it has a relatively straight plotline, and the precipitous drops in suspense suffered by Inkheart are nearly invisible in Funke's second effort.

This one diverged quite nicely in comparison, but I couldn't help but compare Inkspell to Funke's Mirrorworld series. But, the author did such a good job with the Inkheart that I will read anything involving the Inkworld. The writing style was as beautiful as ever so this one gets full marks from me (despite still not being as good as the books from the author's other series). He started out as this loving granddad and turned into the biggest shithead ever, to me, it felt like she was making fun of authors who take themselves too seriously.Firefox is made immortal, surviving a fatal stabbing without suffering any consequences, but then Taddeo, the Adderhead's librarian, kills him by writing the three words in the book. Mortimer takes Firefox's sword, feeling a strange coldness within him; he believes his anger and sadness are changing him into a different person.

The first volume was thrilling, sure, but this was downright tragic what with Dustfinger giving his life for Farid after finally having gotten back to his wife and daughters. Maggie has her mother back but all she can think of is that inky, wondrous world - of the adventures and mayhem, the beauties and the beasties, and the glory and the magic. Her mother, now safely back with Meggie and her father Mo, has told her of the magical places there. Mo and Resa are captured by the Adderhead's men along with many other strolling players in the cave, sold out by one of their own. Brianna falls in love with "Cosimo", but "Cosimo" is then killed by the same person who killed the original Cosimo - Firefox.
