Description
Ok, I've seen a few posts on this subject but none actually seem to give an answer, (so perhaps there isn't one?) If the radiators are hot at the bottom but cold at the top, the issue is more likely to be air than sludge in the radiators. To clean an older system in accordance with BS 7593 it is recommended that this product is used withpowerflushing equipment. In this scenario, administer Sentinel X800 Fast Acting Cleaner via thepowerflushing equipment, following theequipment manufacturer's instructions. Alternatively, circulate theproduct (preferably at normal operating temperature, with all valves open and the pump turned tomaximum flow) for a minimum period of 1 hour or until satisfactory performance is restored. For details of how to dose using the Rapid-Dose format of this product, please watch the Rapid-Dose video.
The Sentinel – X800 Fast Acting Cleaner 1L is a revolutionary solution for maintaining the efficiency of your central heating system. With its targeted cleaning action and fast-acting formula, this cleaner removes corrosion debris, improves system performance, and prolongs the lifespan of your system. Its versatility makes it suitable for both hot and cold systems, while its ease of use makes maintenance hassle-free. Final Recommendation To clean an older system in accordance with BS 7593, this product should be circulated (preferably at normal operating temperature, with all valves open and the pump turned to maximum flow) for a minimum period of 2 hours or until satisfactory performance is restored. Use in conjunction with a powerflushing device to achieve a more rapid clean. Thank you all for your advice, I have tried to do what I can to resolve the heating issues I have been having. So just to paint the picture I will layout the mistakes I have made as somethings that should have been obvious simply wasn’t to me. I located the drain valve just outside the property and opened it to drain the central heating system - left it for about an hour Why? Contamination from the manufacturing and installation processes can accelerate corrosion of new components. According to UK Building Regulations Part L Domestic Heating Compliance Guide, a central heating system should be thoroughly cleaned and flushed out before the installation of a new boiler.Recommended dosage: 1 litre of X300 is sufficient to treat a typical domestic system of up to 10 radiators. Circulate from 1 hour to 7 days for maximum performance. If a system has not been cleaned prior to use, all of the aforementioned issues for new systems will be present, with the installation debris causing issues and damage to the system. I went upstairs and started bleeding the radiators there too which caused water to come out of the bleed valves on the radiators downstairs that I had left open
A good cleaner is Sentinel X400, or X800 which is somewhat more aggressive. X400 can be left in the system, but will cease to loosen sludge after about 4 weeks. X800 should be circulated and the system drained and refilled several times to remove it. Fernox and Kamco are reputable makers of similar products. When using concentrate gel, add directly to the heating system either via a radiator air bleed valve, or via the fill loop using the appropriate adaptor and a suitable caulk gun. Ideally, on the return pipe leading to a boiler. This is to stop debris entering the boiler and damaging it.How does it work? Contains a specialised dispersant to penetrate and lift sludge. Holds sludge in suspension ready for flushing. After cleaning, the system should be drained and flushed until the water runs clear. On refilling, the system should be treated with Sentinel X100 Inhibitor or Sentinel X500 Inhibited Antifreeze. Customers who have used the Sentinel – X800 are thrilled with the results. Many have praised its fast-acting formula, highlighting the noticeable improvement in system efficiency after using the product. Others appreciate its versatility, as it can be used in both hot and cold systems. Overall, customers highly recommend the Sentinel – X800 for anyone looking to maintain the peak performance of their central heating systems. Overall Value What next? Add Sentinel X100 inhibitor, to prevent corrosion and the build-up of limescale, the main causes of central heating and boiler inefficiency.
Apply to: Remove residual flux, grease, oil and manufacturing & installation debris in systems under six months old Yes, the Sentinel – X800 is specifically designed to be safe for use on central heating systems. It targets corrosion debris without causing any harm to the system components.
If a sealed system (combi, or non-combi but with no F&E tank but with an expansion vessel either inside the boiler or external to it) you will need to add the chemical another way. Often a tall towel type radiator will do. Turn off the boiler. Bleed water from a radiator bleed point until the boiler pressure drops to zero. Take the whole bleed plug (not just the square headed bleed screw) out of the top of the radiator, syphon out 1.5 litres of water and replace with the chemical. Replace the plug, top up the system water to normal boiler pressure (say 1.3 bar if you don't know what that is). Run the system as above. You will still have to do a full drain down and repeat a few times as above. If you don't have a suitable towel type radiator you can get the chemicals in various "easy add" versions. I've never found these easy to use. If an open system you will have a small (4 gallon) tank in the loft. Turn off the boiler and water feed to the tank. Remove all the water (which is likely to be filthy) from the small (Feed and Expansion F&E)) tank. Drain some more water from the system (3 or 4 litres) and add the chemical to the tank. Turn on the water feed and let the tank fill until it stops normally. Turn on the boiler, and run the system. After a suitable period (max. 4 weeks for X400, say a day for X800) drain the system, refill and repeat two or three times. I read online that I should have open the bleed valves a bit whilst draining the system. So with this new information I started bleeding the radiators downstairs starting with the one closet to the boiler, which caused more water to come out of the drain valve I bled the towel radiator in the bathtroom and then siphoned some water out so I could pour in 1L of Sentinel X800 Our Vortex500 works in exactly the same way as the Vortex300, adding a larger collection capacity and the ability to be installed on larger pipework too, making it ideal for heat pump systems.
