We started this work with '001', so tofocuson Joe's work with The Mescaleros was the natural second step on '002' because those songs he made with them just seemed to resonate so strongly and reinvigorated his connection with his audience at a level he hadn't experienced since his days with The Clash. Set to be release by Dark Horse Records, ‘Joe Strummer 002: The Mescaleros Years’ will be released on September 16 and marks the first time a comprehensive anthology of the outfit’s work has been issued. The Mescaleros certainly weren’t the Mothers of Invention, but there was an “anything goes” attitude to their approach that eluded some of Strummer’s aging peers.Now with a massively successful US tour opening for sweet soul darlings Thee Sacred Souls behind him, 2023 is sure to be a propitious year for Daptone's newest signee. What an impact, what an amazing musician, what an amazing human being, a great artist, and this boxset perfectly captures the man, the music and the moment, I’m so glad this came out. Recorded at Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn, NY, with the help of producer/arrangers Mike Buckley and Vincent Chiarito (both members of Charles Bradley's Extraordinaires) and crack team of a-list musicians, his upcoming album blends heavy arrangements and introspective lyrics with sophistication, leaving the listener in a blissful wash of wonderment.

Downtempo numbers like “Ramshackle Day Parade” and “Burnin’ Streets” conserve all their energy for the soaring choruses, but elements like the techno-lite touches of “All in a Day” offer a tremendous boost. I will say that the volume is cut low so you’ll need to turn them up and with that, the noise floor or vinyl does have very light surface noise noticeable between tracks but thankfully not during the music.
