Will Lexi able to make amends with her dad and accept him? And does Ben really turns out be a guy as Lexi has imagined? Or will she feel a pull towards Tyler? The only problem was the underdevelopment of Tyler and Lexi's relationship. They spent half of the book away from one another and I felt like something was missing when he confessed he liked her at the end. Faking Perfect took me by complete surprise. I was expecting it to be a more romance-driven story, but it turned out to be an emotional, character-driven book instead, especially when it came to the main character's growth throughout. GENRE and PLOT DETAILS are mandatory in the header/ topic title. Do NOT create vague topic headers like "Romance" or "YA Fantasy" or "Looking for this book." Threads with vague headers will be CLOSED. I'm a huge fan of Portia MacIntosh's books and once again she has written an absolute Gem of a Book!

There are many other characters in this book, Lexi's relationship with Tyler, Nolan and Ben is very distinct and it is something that tells a lot about her. These people make her realize what she actually is and what exactly she want. I loved the way Ella developed and changed not just to be Emma but in time to be a better person within herself,I’m going to embarrass her so hard she’ll spend the next year in her room trying to work out how to change her identity,’ I reply. ‘Millie has been walking all over Emma for too long. I’m going to go in there and – maybe I’ll grab a drink? Maybe I’ll get up on a table and dance?’ Thank you to Rachel Random Resources & Boldwood books for this copy which I reviewed honestly and voluntarily. The writing wasn't very beautiful or special it was just okay ( like the MC). ;). Occasionally, there was a description or bits of dialogue that were written surprisingly well. I cherished those moments =D Faking it" is a sweet story about families, the one you're born into and the one you make for yourself, and the importance of talking to each other when we have the chance, not holding onto silly grudges that the only thing they will achieve is to make us lose time and the possibility of creating beautiful moments with those around us. Faking Perfect is about a girl name Lexi Shaw, she hangs out with cliques whom are "perfect" to cover up her flaws behind the act. She sleeps with Tyler Flynn the ultimate bad boy of the school, she smokes, her mother is too busy drinking and chasing losers to pay the bills and her father hasn't been in most of her life.

I felt quite sorry for Lexi in this, it seemed unfair that her mother cared about her so little, and to not even know if her father was dead or alive wasn’t nice either. Lexi’s mother literally acted like a child, and it was up to Lexi to make sure the bills were paid on time. Ella Copper’s day is not off to a great start. First her flat is partially burned, and then she gets evicted. Then she gets in trouble with her boss (again) and, well, yes, is fired. And then her car refuses to work as well. Ella is 35 years old and at a crossroad as what to do next. This is when she receives a call from her twin sister Emma. Emma has a huge favour to ask: could Ella, pretty please, step into her shoes and take her place for few weeks, as she doesn’t want other people to know that she’s away. She has her reasons. Those people who shouldn’t know that Ella is Emma are not only her friends but also her kids… Overall, this was exactly the kind of read I was in the mood for at the time. If you’re looking for an easy and enjoyable contemporary read, you should give this a try.

Unexpectedly, Ben asks Lexi out, saying that he never realized she had feelings for him. At first, Lexi is finally being the girl she's always wanted to be--Ben's girlfriend. But Ben isn't the perfect boy Lexi always thought. Behind his golden boy exterior is a darker, crueler person she never knew and never wanted to meet in the first place. As for her parents, they were portrayed extremely unrealistically which you would understand once you start reading it. Every character and their lives stories seemed real, to me. This is what I enjoyed the most, in Faking Perfect. The situations, from the teenage girl being pregnant to dealing with weird boyfriends, being drunk at a party, getting to know who your real friends are, your family… all these kind of themes were dealt with in Faking Perfect, maybe this is why it’s labeled “the real thing”.

First of, and the thing that got me interested in this book in the first place, I'm going to start off talking about the relationship between Lexi and Tyler. I was expecting that the main focus of the book would be the relationship but it wasn't. I felt like their relationship wasn't has developed as it should have been and it was really frustrating how Lexi was always thinking about Ben when she was with Tyler, and thinking about Tyler when she was with Ben. I was really hoping we would get more scenes between Tyler and Lexi, but that didn't quite happen. Their relationship was really under developed but I couldn't help myself from loving them on the few scenes they had together. With that said, I don’t have anything negative to say about Faking Perfect, except I did skim a paragraph here and there because it wasn’t anything worth reading. What saved this book from being 3 Stars, is Lexi is dealing with some serious family drama – providing depth in an otherwise shallow storyline. Another winner from one of my favourite authors! Faking It is a hilarious rom-com with lovely and lovable characters, a quirky plotline and some unexected emotional moments. Oh and watch out for Marco! He and Ella become increasingly close, he's handsome, Smart, Fun, and a bit of a Con Artist, but all is not as it seems! Will he suss out Ella's secret?

Her relationships with Ben, Tyler, and Nolan respectively were each distinct and had an interesting dynamic and revealed a lot about Lexi. Watching Lexi realize who was important and unimportant to her was fascinating, as was seeing her thoughts and opinions change, often following instead of preceding her actions. Lexi craved illusion: the right image, the right clothes, the right boyfriend. Instead, she was sleeping with bad-boy Tyler on the sly, while hanging with the cool crowd out in the open. If I expose my nakedness as a person to you- Do not make me feel shame."- John Powell, Why Am I Afraid to Tell You Who I Am? Okay, so yes I've this problem that the writer didn't actually give more description about the characters because yes that made it difficult for me to imagine about them. First you steal my rum and now my cigs,” Tyler said indignant. “What’s next? You want my wallet? My heart? No, wait… you already stole that.”

Despite the issues I had with the development of the relationship, I really enjoyed this book. The plot was really interesting, with Lexi discovering that it is okay to be herself and all the storyline about her father. But what really made it for me were the characters. The author has a way to make the reader really appreciate the characters and love them with all their flaws. Lexi was my favorite character in the whole book, something I wasn't really expecting to happen because of the first chapters. Ella and Emma were not the typical twins we hear all about. They did not experience a deep connection to each other; in fact, they thought so differently they had been apart for more than ten years.

Advance Praise

If you're not into coming-of-age books dashed with a little bit of romance, then this book may not be the one for you.
