This entry in the bestselling Villains series tells the tale of the rise and fall of the infamous pirate Captain Hook―a boy who grew up. After the death of her beloved father, she is forced to maintain a shabby dignity as the unwanted boarder of her tyrannical uncle, fending off marriage to a local mill owner. James, avant de devenir le Capitaine Crochet, est un homme touchant, empathique avec pleins de rêves et d’espoir en tête. When the crew rebels, Clarice/Clarence, an expert with rapier and dagger, sides with the handsome navigator, Dominick, and kills the cruel captain.

Maybe I'd have enjoyed the stuff about the Kingdoms and Odd Sisters and all that more if I'd read the other books. And even once James gets to Never Land (which I was looking forward to), I found the whole plot there to be so contrived and ridiculous. Distraught and contemplating suicide, Savage accidentally conjures the devil - the polite "Gentleman" of the title - who appears at one of the society parties Savage abhors.

I cared immensely for James and felt so heartbroken reading about how much hurt and pain he experienced. Despite her new skills and the strange things happening in her world, Snow White has been carrying on as normal…until now.

The series books were definitely more interesting in the beginning than they have been with the past few. James is claimed by his parents just shy of seven days--after which he would have officially become a Lost Boy. I would strongly recommend to read the previous books in this series, as some of them are tied into this story. The 9th book in the New York Times bestselling Villains series tells the tale of the rise and fall of the infamous pirate, Captain Hook—a boy who grew up. This collection features the first two books in the Disney Chills series, which brings elements of the most popular Disney tales into the present day with contemporary stories, characters, and twists. Here is one version of the story that has remained untold for centuries--a tale of mothers and daughters, youth and dark magic. However, I thought these were all stand alone, each following a different Disney villain (hence why I started with the 9th book in the series), but it seems like they are all intertwined and centered around "the odd sisters", so I might have to start from the beginning instead of jumping around. Then Kat meets Isadora, a new girl in town who challenges Kat to reexamine those expectations, opens her eyes to the possibility that ghosts are real, and makes her question who she truly wants to be .

Before the story of the infamous Captain Hook was another, of a baby stripped of his chance to become a Lost Boy. Before Prince Eric's mother, the Queen of Vellona, went missing two years ago, she reminded him about the details of the deadly curse that has plagued his entire life. The story wasn’t gripping my attention anymore in the same way, the plot was slow moving and while I loved James (we get to that), I missed him interacting with his crew. I struggled to get past the first third of the book, lacking a connection to James as a character and feeling like there wasn't really any plot for me to follow. But when her mother gives her the original Katrina van Tassel's diary on the two-hundredth anniversary of the Headless Horseman's haunting, a new legend begins to take shape, weaving together the past and the present in eerie ways. Daring sword fights, battling Kraken, and making a name for himself on the seas lead to the acquisition of the Jolly Roger.

Examines the life of Snow White's stepmother, the Wicked Queen, to find out just what it is that makes her so evil that she would want to cut out her teenage step-daughter's heart and have it delivered in a locked keepsake box. Hardcover editions of Books 1-3 of Valentino's Villains series--Fairest of All, The Beast Within, and Poor Unfortunate Soul--are collected in this boxed set that includes a sneak peak of Book 4, Mistress of All Evil. It’s what drives him to seek out pirates and join a crew so he can seek out this mysterious land he once visited. Disney's New York Times best-selling Villains series comes to life in this graphic novel adaptation of the book that started it all in this tragic tale of love and loss, the untold story of Snow White's Wicked Queen. She hires a PI to pick up where the police left off, but instead of finding Sebastian, she learns that Derek is having an affair with a younger woman. His arc was incredibly crafted and from all the Pan and Hook retellings I read so far, this book definitely delivered my favorite interpretation and presentation of James.
