About this deal

The room response must be averaged to recognize trends in the summation of direct and reflected signals at the microphone. The resulting curves must not be taken as a 1:1 representation of what is heard as loudness at different frequencies. The room response gives a picture of the steady state SPL, where sound generation and sound dissipation in the room have reached their equilibrium." -Linkwitz It is fairly unusual to have a product turn up and me to have no real idea how it will sound. My exposure to other Revel speakers has not been extensive and has occurred mainly with rather more expensive members of the range in turn being powered by some very serious pieces of kit indeed. The M16, costs a tenth as much as the last Revel I listened to and much as I don’t think the equipment I have to hand is shabby, it also costs a great deal less than the Levinson gear it was running off. The SA20 is the most affordable offering to come sporting Arcam’s Class G amplifier topology, delivering just under 20 of its 90Watts in Class A @ 8Ohms. I feel also touching the price range of 1k I know the KEF 3R are the reference and spending 1k on the Revel might be disappointing. I don't know if I have the right approach but I feel like that now. With the C205, I believe there's plenty of mids and mid-bass tones in there to not actually be a thin sounding speaker. I've heard thin-sounds speakers before, and THIS isn't one of them.

Over 1000 points around the speaker were measured (from 20 to 20 kHz) which resulted in well under 1% error in identification of the sound field across full frequency response of 20 to 20 kHz. Final database of measurements and data is 1.4 Gigabytes in size. As you see below, I also made a scan using 500 points and results were identical, pointing to a well behaved soundfield that is easily to synthesize. The resulting ceramic/metal/ceramic sandwich provides constrained layer damping that pushes cone break-up modes outside the passband, so the driver can deliver ideal pistonic motion throughout its operating range. Digital tunes again seem to be better handled, which we can only put down to the skilled DAC. We left the filter set in Linear Phase Fast Roll Off (LinP Fast) which is the SA10’s default setting - No phase shifts and with minimal high-frequency aliasing compared with slow roll off. SA20, CDS50, Revel Concerta2 M16 Review My type of music is very much classical music such as Brahms, Strauss, Vivaldi, Wagner, Mozart……… and more rhythm with Daft Punk, Jean Michel Jarre, Electric Light Orchestra, the Alan Parson Projet, Muse, and Electro. Very large variety of music as you can see.

There are no fasteners on the exterior panels, but rather, the the addition of magnetic grilles with metallic brushed logos on the front of the speakers. Together, these add to the speaker set’s well-polished, properly-made feel, bolstering the overall quality of the M16. The M16 is a true full range 2-way 6.5 bookshelf that features a small footprint and elegant design. It will deliver an impressive combination of wide frequency range, uncompressed dynamic range and low distortion across the entire audible spectrum. My room is 23x12x8.5'tall and I do louder sessions regularly and again I recommend a subwoofer or two or three. In a typical set-up I'd high pass the 530's between 80-100hrz and the M16 at 70-90. In my set-up I actually high pass the 530's at 125hrz in a situation where that makes sense. High passed like that the 530's can play very loud without any issue and very low distortion as long as you have power as they are very power-hungry. Additionally, thanks to the tweeter’s dispersion, taking the Revel Concerta2 M16 out of the corner of the room pays off and allows them to show what an impressively wide and open sound stage they can produce. The upshot of this is that toeing in appears more to do with personal taste than necessity here. SA10, CDS50, Revel Concerta2 M16 Review

If you want to have a taste of what all of Harman research and engineering is about, get a pair of M16s and listen. They are delightful "bookshelf" speakers showing what can be done when you combine serious research with a decent budget for pats and manufacturing. The SA20’s G-Class amplification is simarly hooked-up to four line-level RCA inputs and a moving magnet phono stage. Also present is a trio of digital inputs; two coaxial and one optical. Decoding is taken care of by an ESS Sabre 9038K2M DAC. Interestingly, you are also able to select from seven different filter settings to fine tune the performance of the unit. I spent many evenings listening to the seductive M16s. I often find that a darkened listening space enhances the realism of venue acoustics and transients. So a speaker with the M16’s qualities is perfect for these occasions. Listening to the Concerta2 M16s is a journey of exploration: the more you listen, the more you discover. I put many hours on this pair, and the rewards are significant over time. We have our vertical dip at extreme angles so floor and ceiling should be covered if the room is not too dead already: research and is not something that some audiophile just mused one day; here is a white paper by Dr. Floyd Toole that discusses

That "strange" treble of the 530 that you didn't like is what hooked me, just something magical about if for me. It gave me a taste of that original sin that had me hooked on good audio long ago. I am all for a big dose of accuracy and love measurements but in the end it better still have enough magic left for me to actually love music on it. some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online)
