Description

The clean channel of Fender amps is notorious for producing high-quality sound, and the Champion 40 is no exception. However, if you want a grittier sound with plenty of distortion and overdrive, this amp delivers a high degree of quality in that regard as well, especially for its low price. If you plan on playing in a larger room, I can recommend the Champion 100. The 100 is a 100-watt amplifier loaded with 2×12″ speakers. This combination allows it to be much louder than the Champion 40 and handle higher volumes. The 40 is a loud amplifier, and you’ll get the loudest output from the amp using the clean channel with an external overdrive, distortion, or fuzz pedal. Beginners will also like the fact that you can plug in your headphones, and therefore get the benefit of the amplifier, without bugging the people you share your house with. Why We Like It The fiberboard that encircles the speaker is sturdy and stable. The important point to note here is that the dimensions of the wood surrounding the speaker fitting have not been decreased to save weight, as some manufacturers do. If this portion of the fitting is not secure, speaker movement inside the cabinet will cause damage over time. This will either damage the sound, create internal movement in the speaker, or, in the worst-case scenario, cause the speaker to become disconnected from its fitting and chase you around the stage. Even if you are in Spinal Tap, this is not a good situation. The Fender Champion 40 is loud enough for small cafe and club gigs. This is loud enough to keep up with a drummer, either with a smaller kit or someone not playing above 50% maximum volume. If you need more volume, you can easily mic up the amplifier and go through the PA system at a gig. Champion 40 12″ Speaker 8-ohms

The only issue we could detect was a loud pop when it was shut off. That won't help the speaker much in the long run. Even that concern may be bogus because the volume was still turned up, thus turning it down before turning it off could remedy the problem, as it often does. The amp gets plenty loud, I can hear it down the street with the volume on just 5-6. We usually keep it around 3 for bedroom level playing, anything lower then that and it kind of sounds a little hollow. If you are looking for a strictly bedroom amp, I don’t think this would be best because even at 3 it is a little loud. The controls are high quality though and it sounds nice with all the guitars we have. One tempting feature that you're likely to appreciate if you choose the Champion 40 is the seamless transition between sound channels when utilized with a pedal switch. This is a significant improvement over the Champion 20, which is still a wonderful amp but doesn't work as well with a foot switch. Speaking of channels, if you want a clean tone when playing guitar, this amp should be at the top of your list! The volume took over but how can you ever forget that sound of the Fender amp. It was special and still is. It is also worth mentioning that this combo tends to be pretty loud. As a result, it can be efficiently used for home practice, band rehearsals and even small gigs. If this area of the fitting is not secure, then speaker movement inside the cabinet will gradually cause damage. This will either affect the sound, cause internal movement of the speaker or at worst the speaker will become detached from its fitting and start chasing you around the stage. Not the ideal scenario, even if you happen to be in Spinal Tap. It is well made, is tough enough but light enough to make transporting it easy, and it has a whole load of onboard functions and effects and has a great sound.

watts of Power: At 40 watts, you’ll have an amplifier that you can both practice on alone and also jam on with your bandmates. And remember that it’s powerful enough to annoy your neighbors, so that’s definitely a good sign too. FAQ Where is this combo made? This amplifier features digital amplifier modeling encompassing a variety of amp types old and new, U.S. and U.K., and more. From classic Fender amp sounds to modern designs voiced for specific styles (i.e., metal), it’s just like having several amps in one.It is manufactured in China, as are some of Fender's goods these days. That should not be interpreted negatively. We've seen some really bad manufacturing attempts come out of both western and eastern plants, and you can only assess a product on its own merits. The amplifier itself is fairly light, weighing only 35 pounds. It's made of seven-ply three-quarter inch medium density fiberboard and has an angled front panel. One of the best alternatives to the Champion 40 is Champion 50XL. I had a chance to review the Fender Champion 50XL recently, and I have to say, it was a lot of fun to use. The major difference is the 50s’ new visual paired with a selection of new effects. These new effects suit players looking for a better overdrive or distortion tone without using pedals. Fender upgraded the speaker in the 50XL to a Celestion Midnight 60 G12N-60, and it’s a welcomed upgrade over the old generic Fender speakers found in other amps. You would have to say that the effects like the reverb, the chorus, and the delay are there to assist rather than take center stage, but the amp modeling is a good option and opens up a whole area of sound production. Every time that I used this amp I was pleasantly surprised – the tonal possibilities are endless. Great for small gigs, great for rehearsals and home practice – who needs anything else?

If you need all the effects under the sun, get the Katana 50. If you like to keep it simple, get the Champion amp 40.Usually, when an amplifier has a million options, you can sometimes spend more time fiddling with the sounds instead of practicing. Many guitarists wonder whether they should choose the Fender Champion 20 or Fender Champion 40. Both of these amps are really good, but which one of them is actually better?Well, the truth is that it all depends on your personal preferences. Additionally, we get a dedicated distortion channel volume control to set the output volume 0f the amplifier accordingly. Furthermore, the Champion 40 has a Voice control that allows you to select from a host of unique and usable drive sounds. By rotating the potentiometer around, you can select between low-gain tones (left), to high-gain tones on the right. In my opinion, the Champion 20 works better as an amp for home practice, while the Champion 40 is better for small gigs and rehearsals with the band.
