It includes a snap-on close-up lens which is easy to lose. The camera's auto flash optimizes the lighting according to distance, and you can choose the fill-in flash with a flash-on LCD button. Advanced Lens System: One built-in wide angle lens, plus additional Fisheye and Portrait lens attachments available.

We took hundreds of photos with the 13 most promising instant cameras on the market in a quest to find the best methods for documenting your next adventure. We brought our cameras to dimly lit parties, bright and sunny beach days, and everything in between, all to assess how each performs in a wide range of conditions. We also dove into every advanced setting and creative mode each model offers. Our results cover everyone, from bargain hunters to those seeking the best picture quality to creatives who want as many artistic options as possible. There are a couple of different camera ways you can buy the Lomo'Instant Automat in - we were supplied with the “South Beach” edition to us for our review, which is a burgundy and cream design. You may draw some attention when using a camera like this.

Other features of the camera include a 95mm f/10 lens, which is equivalent to 45mm in 35mm terms. The camera is fully automatic, but there are a couple of functions which you can control as a user, including a multiple exposure, self-timer and long-exposure (Bulb) mode. Indoors, the results are mixed but you can still get some good images using the inbuilt flash. Focusing, again, is something you will need to experiment with for best results, but when you’re shooting a landscape scene you’ll probably find you have no complaints. Close-up photos take a little more experimentation and practice though.

Why You Need The Lomo’Instant…

This classic instant film staple is updated with the option to enhance the experience via a creative app

If you’re after a wide angle instant, the Automat Glass is really your only option and it’s one we like a lot. There’s also a switch here for activating multiple exposures, marked with MX. If you move this into the MX position, you can continue to take as many shots as you like until the switch is moved down again whereupon the film will be released with the multiple exposure. Things get a little strange when we look at the lens. The LomoMod No.1 has a liquid-filled lens with a variable aperture. The Instax wide format prints the Wide spits out can deliver an impressive amount of detail, with a distinctive colour palette. Blues and green hues have plenty of pop, while other shades deliver a pastel-like, washed out vibe. It’s how instant format prints have looked for years, and Lomography keeps the same look here. Also on the front of the Lomo'Instant Automat is the shutter release button, which when holding your camera with your right hand just about falls under your middle finger. The button is reflective silver, so you can use it as a “selfie mirror” to help you compose self-portraits. The camera’s flash unit is housed on the front of the camera, as well as light sensors.

The flash is switched on by default, but you may wish to switch it off in very bright conditions. The flash itself is hidden behind a small translucent window on the front of the camera. In the Pigalle combo, you get a few different coloured “flash gels”, which are thin strips of plastic in different colours - you can very easily place these in front of the flash via the small slot at the top of the camera.

Lomo has come to be a term that’s generally used for vintage cameras, budget cameras, toy cameras, and even your old instant camera. After you’ve selected the relevant focusing option and your shooting modes, you’re ready to take your shot. Line it up in the viewfinder, and press relatively firmly down on the shutter release button, which is found on the front of the camera. This takes the shape of a Lomo logo and is a little on the discreet side - it’s easy to find with your forefinger though when holding the camera in a standard orientation. Lomography is an avant-garde approach to photography that uses quirky camera gear to achieve a lo-fi aesthetic. Exposure also takes some getting used to. The Square doesn't have a full manual exposure mode (few instant cameras do), so you're going to rely on its ambient light meter to judge exposure. The problem with an ambient meter is that, in situations with mixed lighting, it can be off. You can brighten or darken shots by a stop using the EV compensation controls on the rear, and I recommend using the brighter setting when shooting indoors. The Square shoots a bit too dark indoors and in dim light by default. For nighttime street shots, set the camera on a tripod and use the remote to do a timed exposure, or the body's Bulb mode for long exposure. The lens is glass, a step up from the plastic lenses you get with all Fujifilm and some Lomography instant cameras. Its 95mm focal length is close to a standard-angle field of view, 45mm in full-frame terms. That's a departure from the 28mm-equivalent lenses that Lomography has used with smaller format instant models like the Lomo'Instant Automat, but a welcome change of pace for photographers who prefer a standard lens.
