And while you’ll feel frustrated, stressed out and completely chaotic with Perdie, you’ll also feel her struggle in a world built for men that would be so much better if work atmospheres were a bit less misogynistic!!!!!

Also - the AMAZING friendship with Perdie and Lucille. I loved their love for each other truly. Everyone needs a friendship like that in their lives. They're about to acquire a clean energy upstart, Binney Enterprises, for nine hundred million and change," Adler went on. "They've been after them for a year and a half, and finally shook hands with the Binney people last week." Ingrid gets assigned to a new deal working with Marty Adler, a corporate partner and rainmaker at PV. She works late, poring diligently over the details of the deal, hoping her excellent work will continue to be noticed as election season of new partners approaches. While working on this deal, Ingrid also witnesses an offensive performance by other lawyers at an internal firm event and is voluntold to participate in the firm’s diversity initiatives, in a clear move of damage control by PV.The Gilded Age' Season 2 True Story: How Petty Rich People Drama Built the Metropolitan Opera House So who is this mystery man? In the books, Tim is in the associate class three years ahead of Ingrid. When he makes partner, he ends up being a rarity in that he never sees himself as being above any of his colleagues or anyone else for that matter. In the book, he’s described as havingsalt-and-pepper hair and kind gray eyes and as being “the type of guy whose appeal, I guessed, was obvious to most but not all.” From lawyer-turned-author Helen Wan comes an illuminating look at the social and racial politics at a prestigious New York law firm.” — Audrey Magazine

In the eyes of her corporate law firm, Ingrid Yung is a "two-fer." As a Chinese-American woman about to be ushered into the elite rank of partner, she's the face of Parsons Valentine & Hunt LLP's recruiting brochures--their treasured "Golden Girl." But behind the firm’s welcoming façade lies the scotch-sipping, cigar-smoking old-boy network that shuts out lawyers like Ingrid. To compensate, Ingrid gamely plays in the softball league, schmoozes in the corporate cafeteria, and puts in the billable hours — until a horrifically offensive performance at the law firm's annual summer outing throws the carefully constructed image way out of equilibrium. Scrambling to do damage control, Parsons Valentine announces a new "Diversity Initiative" and commands a reluctant Ingrid to spearhead the effort, taking her priority away from the enormous deal that was to be the final step in securing partnership. For the first time, Ingrid finds herself at odds with her colleagues — including her handsome, golden-boy boyfriend — in a clash of class, race, and sexual politics. That doesn’t mean the now nearly-decade-old novel was completely true to contemporary experiences Lee is familiar with. Scenes like the cringeworthy retreat sequence (in which a racially charged stand-up set goes horribly wrong) had to be updated from their place in the book. My only gripe is that I finished this in less than a day but at least I have it on hand when I want to reread 🥰 Friends' Star Jennifer Aniston Breaks Down In Tears Over The Thought Of Matthew Perry Dying In Resurfaced 2004 Interview

Matthew Rauch as Marty Adler, the mergers and acquisitions managing partner at Parsons Valentine & Hunt With a little help from her best friends Tyler (Bradley Gibson) and Rachel (Alexandra Turshen), Ingrid sets out to get the promotion she so clearly deserves. She puts in overtime and consistently helps the firm avoid snafus. She even snags lead on a crucial SunCorp deal. But is it enough? A wholly engrossing behind-the-scenes look at real life behind the pomp, power and prestige of a high-powered law firm that wants to still play by a 1950s rule book.” — Emma McLaughlin & Nicola Kraus, co-authors of Citizen Girl and The Nanny Diaries So," said Adler, eyes still closed, as you've probably heard through the grapevine, we've just been retained by SunCorp, the energy conglomerate based in Houston."

I saw the trailer for the Netflix movie that's coming out and was v happy to see an Asian lead! I was too curious about what happens with the love interests in the trailer so I had to read the book to find out since I can't wait the half-month for the movie to come out. I was originally just going to skim to see what happens with the boys but ended up reading the whole book at once because I just had to finish all of it. There was low-key way more to it than I was expecting that actually made me want to read the whole thing.Ok, this book was honestly, just what I needed. After I finished it, I dipped into Cat’s DMs to tell her how much I enjoyed and she said “I was just trying to write a good time.” And honestly? Yes. That’s exactly what this book was. Actress Bridgette Wilson-Sampras Has Ovarian Cancer, Husband Reveals: "An Exceptionally Challenging Time For My Family" I read the book in two days because I wanted to know what would happen next and how she was going to balance assimilation, ambition and self-identity and keep her sanity intact. Wan succeeds in exploring and fictionalizing the timely topics of sexism and racism in workplace politics in a fluent, thought-provoking, and compelling tale.” — Booklist

And then the guy is a TOTAL sweetheart. He is solely focused on her and there are no OW/OM in this (though she both contemplates other men and thinks he might be with other women... he's not). He is not perfect. When she freaks out (which she sadly does a lot), he often will say something like "I won't be waiting for you forever", which, while true, is a kinda shitty thing to say to a woman you love. But I forgive him because he really would have waited for her. He just can't help it cause he really thinks she's worth it. So at the last minute, I rushed from work to my apartment and threw on my high school prom dress—the one I'd worn the night I'd been crowned Potomac Valley High's first-ever Asian American prom queen. (Oh my! Mrs. Saltzstein, the guidance counselor, had gushed. She'd heard of Oriental valedictorians before, but never a Chinese prom queen!) The dress was a strapless pink taffeta number. The zipper took some coaxing, and I was mushrooming a little out the top, but damn if I didn't still look pretty good in that thing. There were a few instances where I couldn’t completely get behind Perdie’s attitude or her choices, but nothing too major. I highly recommend this book to rom-com readers who enjoy a steamy workplace romance with rivals-to-lovers energy. A master storyteller...Wan paints a realistic and immersing portrait of the elite world of corporate law. She had me rooting for Ingrid's success and happiness from the first chapter.” — Real Simple Southern Charm' Alum Chelsea Meissner Confirms The Birth Of Her First Child: "One Month Postpartum"
