Description

To see how this impacted performance we turned on the denoiser then rendered the same scene with 10 passes at fast quality and 50 & 200 at accurate quality. This threw up some interesting results. When the scene was rendered with 10 passes, the Nvidia Quadro RTX 4000 took nearly twice as long as the P4000 (23 secs compared to 12 secs). GPUDirect for Video speeds communication between the GPU and video I/O devices by avoiding unnecessary system memory Nvidia Quadro RTX is based on Nvidia’s new Turing architecture, which has been designed from the ground up for ray tracing and deep learning, a subset of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The embedded OpenCL Just-In-Time compiler will offer an opt-in version utilizing CLANG 7.0 and NVVM 7.0 components, providing support for 16-bit floating point and 128-bit integer data types.

It’s important to note that the Quadro RTX GPUs are more power hungry than the Pascal Quadros they replace. The max power consumption for the RTX 4000, for example is 160W, compared to the 105W of the Quadro P4000. The top-end RTX 8000 can go all the way up to 295W.As we wait for AMD to deliver a Pro version of its ‘Big Navi’ Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs with hardware ray tracing, Nvidia’s biggest competitor in pro graphics is currently itself. The Quadro RTX 4000 features a power-efficient, single-slot design that fits in variety of workstation chassis. Other benefits include: Supporting Models :P400, P600, P620, P1000, P2000, P4000, P5000, P6000, GP100, K420, K620, K1200, K2200, M4000, M5000 Overall, Nvidia has done an excellent job with its next generation pro GPU. Even without the future promise of RTX acceleration, it’s hugely impressive for the price and firmly cements the role of the GPU as a multi-functional processor and not just a graphics card for interactive 3D. It looks like it will still take Nvidia some time to truly deliver on its real time ray tracing vision, but it’s certainly on the right path. We also tested the Nvidia Quadro RTX 4000 with two other GPU rendering applications. In the V-Ray benchmark it was an impressive 25% faster than the P5000, although this is all about raw ray tracing performance as the benchmark doesn’t take advantage of the AI denoising capabilities of V-Ray NEXT.

NVIDIA ® Quadro ® RTX™ 4000 combines the NVIDIA Turing GPU architecture with the latest memory and display technologies, to deliver the best performance and features in a single-slot PCI-e form factor. Enjoy greater fluidity with photorealistic rendering, experience faster performance with AI-enabled applications and create detailed, lifelike VR experiences more cost-effectively and across a broader range of workstation chassis configurations. Like the Nvidia RTX A4000 it offers a significant upgrade in all areas of processing – CUDA, Tensor and RT cores. The Quadro RTX 4000 is complete overkill for most 3D CAD applications including SolidWorks, which tend to be CPU limited and often work just as well with an entry-level or mid-range GPU like the Quadro P1000 or P2000.Furthermore, as the Nvidia RTX A4000 is a single slot GPU with a max power consumption of 140W delivered through a single 6-pin PCIe connector, it’s available in a wide range of desktop workstation form factors. This includes compact towers like the HP Z2 Tower G8 and Dell Precision 3650. The compact HP Z2 Tower can host the Nvidia RTX A4000 or Nvidia RTX A5000 GPU However, with the new OpenGL 4.5 beta graphics engine, which should make its way into SolidWorks proper by the 2020 release, the Quadro RTX 4000 delivered a phenomenal 58 FPS at 4K resolution with RealView, shadows and Ambient Occlusion enabled.

As you’d expect from Nvidia’s new ‘Ampere’ architecture, the Nvidia RTX A4000 also offers a significant improvement in processing. This can be seen in all areas of the GPU with more CUDA cores for general processing, third-generation Tensor Cores for AI operations and second-generation RT Cores for hardware-based ray tracing. It leads to a substantial performance increase in many different applications (see later on). Types and number of video connectors present on the reviewed GPUs. As a rule, data in this section is precise only for desktop reference ones (so-called Founders Edition for NVIDIA chips). OEM manufacturers may change the number and type of output ports, while for notebook cards availability of certain video outputs ports depends on the laptop model rather than on the card itself. Users can choose to render scenes with or without denoising enabled.

Card Notes

For comparison, we used the last two generations of ‘4000’ class Nvidia pro GPUs – the 8 GB ‘Turing’ Nvidia Quadro RTX 4000 (from 2019) and the 8 GB ‘Pascal’ Nvidia Quadro P4000 (from 2017). Three to four years is quite a typical upgrade cycle in workstations, so the intention here is to give a good idea of the performance increase one might expect from an older machine. We put the Nvidia RTX A4000 and Nvidia RTX A5000 through a series of real-world application benchmarks, for GPU rendering, real-time visualisation and 3D CAD. Decode acceleration for MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Part 2 Advanced Simple Profile, H.264, HEVC, MVC, VC1, DivX (version 3.11 and and higher multi-node training performance. GPU accelerated libraries such as cuDNN, cuBLAS, and TensorRT delivers

For Nvidia GPUs we used the 416.78 driver, so it could be compared directly to existing results. For the AMD Radeon Pro WX 8200 we used the 18.Q4 driver. Denoising is a post-processing technique based on machine learning that filters out noise from unfinished / noisy images and is the foundation for many RTX-accelerated applications. It means you can get better looking renders with significantly fewer rendering passes. Visit our booth to experience a real-time, immersive walkthrough powered by the Quadro RTX 4000. However, when it comes to GPU rendering, it can be restrictive. Memory requirements increase with the size the model, the HDR images and the textures, as well as with output resolution.Quadro P5200, Quadro P5000, Quadro P4200, Quadro P3200, Quadro P4000, Quadro P3000, Quadro P2000, Quadro P1000, Quadro P600, Quadro P500, Quadro M2200, Quadro M1200, Quadro M620, Quadro M520, Quadro M5500, Quadro M5000M, Quadro M4000M, Quadro M3000M, Quadro M2000M, Quadro M1000M, Quadro M600M, Quadro M500M, Quadro K5100M, Quadro K5000M, Quadro K4100M, Quadro K4000M, Quadro K3100M, Quadro K2200M, Quadro K2100M, Quadro K3000M, Quadro K2000M, Quadro K1100M, Quadro K1000M, Quadro K620M, Quadro K610M, Quadro K510M, Quadro K500M Equipping the RTX A4000 with 16 GB of memory is very significant. While we often see models / scenes that surpass 8 GB (the capacity of the previous generation Quadro RTX 4000) scenes that are 16 GB and above are certainly less common, and more the preserve of viz specialists than most architects or product designers who use standard materials and assets.
